Any parent who has watched their baby learning to walk will know it takes time and patience to master. That is, unless you\u2019re an\u00a0elephant.\u00a0<\/p>\n
WWF<\/a> has shared a charming video of a newborn elephant<\/a> in Botswana learning to stand and start walking \u2013 something they can do within an hour of being born.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cA newborn that can\u2019t keep up won\u2019t survive \u2013 so they must master the ability to stand, find their balance, and walk within their very first hour of life (all 120kg of them!),\u201d says Tanya Smith,\u00a0WWF\u00a0Senior Programme Advisor (Africa). \u201cThis is a unique skill compared to many other mammals – orangutans<\/a> take months to get there, and humans about a year!\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n In the footage, the little elephant rises awkwardly, legs akimbo and wobbling like jelly.\u00a0<\/p>\n In a touching gesture, the mother places her trunk under the baby\u2019s body to help steady it as it trembles to its unsteady feet and takes its first tottering steps.\u00a0<\/p>\n See the heartwarming moment a newborn elephant calf in Botswana is helped to its feet by its mother. Being able to stay with the group is vital for the little one\u2019s survival, which is why they learn to walk so quickly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
