REUTERS\/Alkis Konstantinidis\" fetchpriority=\"low\"\/>A woman in Beirut holds a photo of Lebanese Al Mayadeen reporter Fatima Ftouni during a demonstration following her killing [Alkis Konstantinidis\/Reuters]<\/p>\n<p>The World \u2060Health \u2060Organization said that eight other paramedics were killed on Saturday and seven more were wounded in \u2060five separate attacks on healthcare in southern Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli military acknowledged the strike that killed the journalists, claiming Shuaib was embedded within a Hezbollah intelligence unit and had been tracking Israeli troop positions in southern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/where\/lebanon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lebanon<\/a>. It also alleged he had been distributing Hezbollah propaganda.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Manar, his employer, described him as one of its most prominent war correspondents, having covered Israeli attacks on Lebanon for decades.<\/p>\n<p>Israel, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/8\/11\/here-are-the-names-of-the-journalists-israel-killed-in-gaza\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">killed<\/a> more than 270 journalists in Gaza, often alleges that the reporters it targets are members of or are linked to armed groups without providing evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Neither network accepted Israel\u2019s characterisation.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said Israel had once again violated \u201cthe most basic rules of international law\u201d by targeting civilians carrying out their professional duty.<\/p>\n<p>He called it \u201ca blatant crime that violates all norms and treaties under which journalists are granted international protection during armed conflicts\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Nawaf Salam decried the attack as \u201ca flagrant violation of international humanitarian law\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Reporting from Tyre in southern Lebanon, Al Jazeera\u2019s Obaida Hitto said, \u201cAll the journalists that I\u2019m speaking to here today say that they were just doing their job, and that the journalists that are still here are going to continue to carry out their work despite the obvious dangers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nine paramedics killed in one day<\/p>\n<p>WHO\u2019s chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus did not specify the perpetrator when announcing the deaths of paramedics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Zoutar al-Sharqiya, five health workers were killed in a strike, and two were injured, one critically. Two more health workers were killed and three wounded in Kfar Tibnit; one paramedic died in an attack at a health facility in Ghandouriyeh, while another was killed in a strike in Jezzine. Two were wounded in an attack on Kfar Dajjal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tedros noted \u2060the repeated attacks have severely disrupted health services in \u2060southern Lebanon, with four \u2060hospitals and 51 primary \u2060healthcare centres now closed and several other facilities \u200coperating at reduced capacity.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Intense day of bombardment\u2019<\/p>\n<p>For Ftouni, one of the journalists who was killed, the war had already struck close to home. Earlier this month, her uncle and his family were killed in an Israeli strike, a loss she had reported on live television.<\/p>\n<p>Al Mayadeen has now lost six journalists since hostilities began. Farah Omar, Rabih Me\u2019mari, Ghassan Najjar and Mohammad Reda were killed in earlier attacks.<\/p>\n<p>According to Lebanon\u2019s Ministry of Health,\u00a01,142 people have been killed and more than 3,300 injured in Israeli attacks since March 2 amid the\u00a0rapidly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/3\/28\/yemens-houthis-claim-responsibility-for-a-missile-attack-on-israel-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">widening regional conflict<\/a> now entering a second month.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli troops have pushed further into the south, advancing towards the Litani River.
