HBO and BBC drama Industry<\/a> was handed a fifth season renewal<\/a> last month but with a big catch. The series, which follows the personal and professional lives of young graduates in the UK financial sector, will end with season five.<\/p>\n

The decision was a disappointing one for fans, especially after season four was such a big hit with viewers and critics when it aired earlier this year.<\/p>\n

But, speaking to Radio Times<\/a>, HBO boss Casey Bloys has explained why the time feels right now to bring the show to an end.<\/p>\n

“In terms of ‘why now? I mean, it\u2019s been five seasons,” Bloys explained. “I think five seasons is a really good run. <\/p>\n

“They\u2019ve reinvented it so many times and taken these characters where they plan to take them in season five, so it felt like a good place to leave them.”<\/p>\n

Bloys went on to tease what could next for the show’s creators, former investment bankers, Mickey Down and Konrad Kay.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019d also like to see what else [Konrad and Mickey] want to do, and I think they felt that as well,” he added. “I\u2019d love to see what else they could do.”<\/p>\n

Speaking about the duo, Bloys added: “They were relatively new writers, and it felt like a really interesting way to approach something, to go in and say, we\u2019re going to cast people right out of drama school and give these young writers a shot and see what happens. I love how it turned out.”<\/p>\n

Industry stars Myha’la, Marisa Abela and Ken Leung, with Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington joining the cast in season 3.<\/p>\n

It debuted in 2020 and has so far picked up a number of awards including Best Leading Actress at the BAFTA TV Awards for Abela. Industry also won the Drama Series prize at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards last year.<\/p>\n

Industry<\/a> airs on BBC and BBC iPlayer in the UK and on HBO in the US. <\/p>\n
