(ABC News: Marcus Kenned)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He called for the federal and state governments to consider more primary industry subsidies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Our big concern is, will we have the support to keep food security \u2014 being fish on the table for everybody \u2014 over the coming months?&#8221; he asked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s just not fishing, it&#8217;s farming, all of our food chain needs to be looked after.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Growers reconsidering planting crops<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">On his plant nursery outside Darwin, the NT Farmers Association president Simon Smith said trucking costs for his produce had also nearly doubled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Everything we bring in, we&#8217;re now paying 30 per cent more in levies, and it&#8217;ll soon be a 50 per cent fuel levy, and on anything we send out, we pay the same,&#8221; Mr Smith said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Simon Smith\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/eacd2a2ed05d841a86964520b1a26582.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Simon Smith says many growers may not plant crops this year.
