\n\t\u201cTomb Raider<\/a>\u201d has paused production while lead Sophie Turner<\/a> recovers from an injury, Variety has confirmed.<\/p>\n

\n\tTurner is set to play video game icon Lara Croft in the Prime Video<\/a> adaptation, which is being written and exec produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (\u201cFleabag\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to British tabloid The Sun, which first reported Turner\u2019s injury, the \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d star has aggravated a pre-existing back injury with production shut down for at least a month and possibly up to six months.<\/p>\n

\n\tA rep for Prime Video told Variety: \u201cSophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury. As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA release date has not yet been confirmed but the series is expected to drop in 2027. It is unclear whether Turner\u2019s injury will impact that.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe series, which began shooting in January, also stars Martin Bobb-Semple, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTomb Raider\u201d was first released as a video game in 1996 and has seen a number of revivals since then. Two new games, \u201cTomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis\u201d and \u201cTomb Raider: Catalyst,\u201d are due out in 2026 and 2027, respectively.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn screen, Croft has been portrayed by Angelina Jolie in 2001\u2019s \u201cLara Croft: Tomb Raider\u201d and Alicia Vikander in 2018 movie \u201cTomb Raider,\u201d which was less well received.<\/p>\n

\n\tThere are high hopes for Prime Video\u2019s version, following their successful adaptation of the video game \u201cFallout,\u201d starring Ella Purnell and Kyle MacLachlan, which returned for a second season earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cTomb Raider\u201d IP is owned by Swedish company Embracer, who acquired the game\u2019s longtime developer Crystal Dynamics in 2022, the same year they also bought \u201cLord of the Rings\u201d owner Middle-Earth Enterprises.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cTomb Raider\u201d has paused production while lead Sophie Turner recovers from an injury, Variety has confirmed.
