She seeks unspecified damages and a court order barring the singer from continuing to use the name of her chart-topping album.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cA solo performer who spent twelve years building a brand shouldn\u2019t have to watch it disappear because someone bigger came along,\u201d said Jaymie Parkinnen, a lawyer for Wade, in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn 2014, Wade, who appeared on America\u2019s Got Talent, began writing a column in the Las Vegas Weekly called \u201cConfessions of a Showgirl\u201d about her experiences as a performer in the entertainment industry. Since then, it\u2019s also become a podcast and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.confessionsofashowgirl.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">live show<\/a> featuring pop and jazz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/music\/\" id=\"auto-tag_music_1\" data-tag=\"music\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">music<\/a>. Her trademark covers live stage performances, theatrical productions and TV, among other things.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBut last year, Swift released her twelfth album, The Life of a Showgirl. \u201cThey did not do so quietly,\u201d reads the complaint. \u201cWithin weeks, the designation was affixed to consumer goods, stamped onto labels, tags, and packaging, and deployed as a source identifier across retail channels\u2014all directed at the same audience Plaintiff had spent years cultivating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhen Swift applied to register The Life of a Showgirl, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office declined because it was confusingly similar to Wade\u2019s mark, according to the lawsuit. It noted that the names share a key phrase, \u201cof a Showgirl,\u201d and stressed that they\u2019re both utilized in connection with entertainment involving musical and theatrical performances, which would likely lead consumers to believe there\u2019s a connection between the two sides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tExisting trademarks typically take precedence over new bids. Now, Swift faces the option of buying out Wade\u2019s claim to the name or fighting the case in court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn the lawsuit, Wade accuses Swift of ignoring her trademark. She says her brand has been undermined, with consumers believing that she copied the singer. \u201cThe continued erosion of that mark threatens the entirety of\u201d Wade\u2019s brand, the complaint states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSwift, who declined to comment, has among the most extensive trademark portfolios in the entertainment industry, with more than 170 active or pending registrations spanning names, phrases and commercial designations.
