\n\tMilly Alcock<\/a> told Vanity Fair<\/a> in a new interview that she\u2019s aware she\u2019ll face backlash over leading Warner Bros. \u201cSupergirl<\/a>\u201d simply because she\u2019s playing a female superhero. The 25-year-old actor is no stranger to dealing with intense fandoms, having broke out as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO\u2019s \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d prequel series \u201cHouse of the Dragon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on,\u201d Alcock said. \u201cWe have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women\u2019s bodies. I can\u2019t really stop them. I can only be myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlcock debuted as Supergirl in a cameo in last year\u2019s \u201cSuperman,\u201d which launched James Gunn and Peter Safran\u2019s new DC Universe on the big screen. This summer\u2019s \u201cSupergirl\u201d is the next movie up for the franchise. Alcock told Vanity Fair that she swore off doing a big franchise after completing work on \u201cHouse of the Dragon.\u201d She changed things up considerably starring opposite Julianne Moore in Netflix\u2019s \u201cSirens\u201d limited series, but then she couldn\u2019t find work for an entire year.<\/p>\n

\n\t \u201cI was so shit-scared that my life was over at 22. And, of course, it wasn\u2019t,\u201d Alcock said about the career anxiety that settled in and made the chance to audition for \u201cSupergirl\u201d all the more favorable. \u201cI kind of bullied myself into it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tVanity Fair also asked <\/a>Alcock about legendary directors such as Martin Scorsese and Ridley Scott speaking out against the superhero genre. Scorsese infamously compared comic book movies to theme park rides when talking about the worrisome state of film exhibition, while Scott said superhero movies <\/a>are \u201cboring as shit\u201d and \u201cthey aren\u2019t any fucking good.\u201d Alcock does not seem to mind.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI get it. They\u2019ve been around for fucking ever making phenomenal films,\u201d she said. \u201cNot every film is for everyone. The beauty of art is that you can be selective.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWarner Bros.\u2019 \u201cSupergirl\u201d synopsis reads: \u201cWhen an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.\u201d The movie also stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Krumholtz as Supergirl\u2019s Zor-El and Jason Momoa as the alien mercenary Lobo.<\/p>\n
