Yesterday, Carey Mulligan<\/a> was at Windsor Castle to receive a CBE\u2014Commander of the Order of the British Empire\u2014from King Charles III<\/a> for her services to drama.<\/p>\n

Fresh from starring in Prada\u2019s spring 2026 campaign, Commander Mulligan, with a little help from stylist Danielle Goldberg, sidestepped the event\u2019s standard-issue fascinator-midi-dress-nude-pumps formula in favour of an embroidered, stand-collar ivory jacket and barrel-leg trousers from The Row<\/a> with oversized Jacques Marie Mage<\/a> sunglasses\u2013a look that tracks with her personal style mantra: staying comfortable. \u201cI just feel my best when I\u2019m comfortable,\u201d Mulligan told<\/a> Vogue at Prada\u2019s spring 2026 show. \u201cNot just when I\u2019m slouching around the house, but for dinner or going to an event, too. I always want to feel like a slightly more polished version of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the latest reminder that Carey Mulligan remains one of Hollywood\u2019s most successful, and yet under-the-radar dressers. Take her run across the 2024 awards season\u2014when she was variously nominated for her role in Maestro\u2014culminating in that waist-cinching, mermaid-tail Balenciaga gown<\/a>, originally designed in 1951 and painstakingly recreated for the 96th Academy Awards. Mulligan herself called it her \u201cfavorite\u201d dress to date, while British Vogue\u2019s fashion news and features director Alice Newbold went further, naming it the look of the season<\/a>.
