{"id":370118,"date":"2026-04-01T22:27:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T22:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/370118\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T22:27:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T22:27:09","slug":"meet-rise-artemis-iis-zero-g-indicator-for-lunar-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/370118\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet &#8216;Rise,&#8217; Artemis II&#8217;s zero-G indicator for lunar mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NASA&#8217;s Artemis II crew will include &#8220;Rise,&#8221; a stuffed figure designed by 8-year-old Lucas Ye, as its zero-gravity indicator and name keeper.<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 The four astronauts of NASA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscentermaine.com\/article\/news\/nation-world\/how-to-watch-artemis-launch-moon-nasa\/507-3da83502-2748-4f7c-95d2-eb48e75c3463\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Artemis II mission<\/a> have an adorable crewmate for their trip around the moon.<\/p>\n<p>The crew is joined by &#8220;Rise,&#8221; a small stuffed figure that will serve as the mission&#8217;s zero-gravity indicator \u2014 a time-honored spaceflight tradition in which a small, lightweight object is released at the moment of weightlessness to signal the crew&#8217;s arrival in space.<\/p>\n<p>Rise was chosen from a worldwide contest open to students of all ages, and the winning submission came from<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/GMA\/Living\/8-year-olds-plush-toy-design-moon-artemis\/story?id=131605806\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">\u00a08-year-old Lucas Ye<\/a>, a second-grader from Mountain View, California.<\/p>\n<p>Mission Specialist Christina Koch, who announced the winner on behalf of the crew, said the selection process was personal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The crew personally participated in selecting our buddy, our stowaway to fly with us,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The name and design carry deep meaning for this particular mission.
