The inclusion of Star Fox character Fox McCloud (voiced by Glen Powell) in the just-released \u201cThe Super Mario Galaxy Movie\u201d has had fans salivating over the prospect of a potential \u201cSuper Smash Bros.\u201d movie down the line.<\/p>\n

Several characters from other Nintendo properties, like \u201cPikmin,\u201d also appear in the new film, which has only further fanned the flames. At least until today.<\/p>\n

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri have both thrown a bucket of cold water on such a prospect, the pair telling Polygon<\/a> that the chances of a Super Smash Bros-style crossover movie are very low at the present time.<\/p>\n

Miyamoto indicates they\u2019re focusing on what\u2019s immediate and have no grand \u201cAvengers\u201d-style team-up plans. Rather, if there will be inclusions it will be as supporting characters or cameos:<\/p>\n

\u201cRight off the bat, I\u2019ll say that unlike something like Super Smash Bros., I don\u2019t think you\u2019ll have a situation [where] all Nintendo characters would be joining [together in one film].<\/p>\n

Meledandri added that with making these movies, the inclusions of non-Mario characters are purely incidental as opposed to something more strategic, such as building an interconnected fictional universe:<\/p>\n

\u201cOur process is actually very different from that. It\u2019s much more geared toward conversations about what would be fun within a certain scene in the movie. So these ideas come up based on, \u2018Oh, wouldn\u2019t it be fun if Pikmin appeared here? Wouldn\u2019t that be fun? If we agree that it\u2019s a fun idea, then we look to Miyamoto-san to just make his own judgment about whether or not it feels right to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miyamoto says he\u2019s open to more cameos and supporting roles like they\u2019ve been doing so far:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have plenty of characters to create a movie, and yet we wanted to add a little bit of spice, a little bit of secret cameos here and there. And you\u2019ll see that there\u2019s one secret character that plays a big role. So I think there might be introductions of characters like this potentially in the future, something like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
