\n Iran\u2019s president has written an open letter to America asking whether the Trump administration\u2019s war<\/a> with his country is putting \u201cAmerica First.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cExactly which of the American people\u2019s interests are truly being served by this war?,\u201d Masoud Pezeshkian wrote in the letter<\/a>, addressed \u201cto the people of the United States of America\u201d and posted on X late Wednesday local time, hours before US President Donald Trump gave his first national address on the Iran war.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIs \u2018America First\u2019 truly among the priorities of the US government today?\u201d Pezeshkian asked.\n <\/p>\n

\n He claimed that Iran has \u201cnever, in its modern history, chosen the path of aggression, expansion, colonialism, or domination, and never initiated any war\u201d and that the perception of his country being a threat is \u201cthe product of political and economic whims of the powerful.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n He asserted Tehran\u2019s actions \u2013 which have included daily drone and missile strikes that have hit civilian and military infrastructure across the Gulf \u2013 have been \u201clegitimate self-defense.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n It was not clear whether other elements of Iran\u2019s leadership were involved in drafting the letter. The highest authority in the Islamic Republic, supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei, has not been seen or heard in public since the US and Israel launched their war on Iran more than a month ago.\n <\/p>\n

\n Pezeshkian went on to imply a distinction between the US government and its people, saying his country has been misunderstood and that \u201cIranian people harbour no enmity towards other nations, including the people of America, Europe, or neighboring countries.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThis is a deeply rooted principle in Iranian culture and collective consciousness\u2013not a temporary political stance,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n

\n In his national address after the letter was posted, Trump called the Iranian leadership \u201cthe most violent and thuggish regime on Earth\u201d and said if the country acquired a nuclear weapon, it would become \u201can intolerable threat.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Trump said that the Iran war is \u201cnearing completion<\/a>\u201d with most of Iran\u2019s military capabilities decimated.\n <\/p>\n

\n Meanwhile, in his letter, Pezeshkian warned the world is at a crossroad.\n <\/p>\n
