The Shelby family is getting new blood.<\/p>\n

Netflix’s upcoming “Peaky Blinders”\u00a0sequel series has cast Jamie Bell (“Shining Girls”) in the lead role of Duke Shelby, taking over the role from Barry Keoghan, who played Duke in the recent movie “Peaky Blinders:\u00a0The Immortal Man.”\u00a0(Get a first look at Bell in the role above.)\u00a0<\/p>\n

Additionally, the sequel series’ cast will include Charlie Heaton (“Stranger\u00a0Things”),\u00a0Jessica Brown Findlay (“Downton Abbey”),\u00a0Lashana Lynch (“The Day of the Jackal”), and\u00a0Lucy Karczewski in her TV debut. (No details on their characters have been released yet.)<\/p>\n

The new “Peaky Blinders,”\u00a0which has already earned a two-season order at Netflix, hails from original series creator Steven Knight and takes place in the 1950s, 10 years after “The Immortal Man.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“A\u00a0decade after World War II, the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions,”\u00a0per the official description.\u00a0“This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy. At its blood-soaked heart is Duke Shelby: older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous.”<\/p>\n

The new Peaky Blinders recasts a key character (again)<\/p>\n

The character of Duke Shelby was first introduced in Season 6 of “Peaky Blinders,”\u00a0with head gangster Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, discovering he had a son he never knew about. Conrad Khan played Duke in Season 6, but in “The Immortal Man,”\u00a0Barry Keoghan took over the role as Duke claimed Tommy’s former position as head of the Birmingham crime mob. By the movie’s end, though \u2014\u00a0spoiler alert!\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Tommy lost his life as he and Duke banded together to stop a Nazi plot to flood the British market with counterfeit money. “Peaky Blinders”\u00a0debuted in 2013 and ran for six seasons on Netflix, wrapping up in 2022. (“The Immortal Man”\u00a0premiered on Netflix last month after an initial run in theaters.) The two new seasons will consist of six episodes each, with production already underway.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Series creator Steven Knight added in a statement: “I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of ‘Peaky Blinders,’ moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early ’50s. We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and ‘Peaky’ is on the road again.”<\/p>\n
