Comet track by Joe Rao.)<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-8a28f56e-3db7-4ac7-9e51-e590b8c79816\">LASCO was designed to take detailed images of the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17160-sun-atmosphere.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17160-sun-atmosphere.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17160-sun-atmosphere.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sun&#8217;s atmosphere<\/a> by blocking out the light coming directly from its surface. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/soho.nascom.nasa.gov\/data\/realtime\/c3\/512\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/soho.nascom.nasa.gov\/data\/realtime\/c3\/512\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Each of SOHO&#8217;s &#8220;C3&#8242;&#8221; images<\/a> captures a field of view 32 times the diameter of the sun, revealing how material ejected from its surface interacts with the space environment and, occasionally, detecting the presence of interlopers, such as C\/2026 A1 (MAPS).<\/p>\n<p><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/author\/joe-rao\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/author\/joe-rao\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/author\/joe-rao\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Space.com columnist Joe Rao<\/a> forecast that comet C\/2026 A1 (MAPS) will enter the LASCO instrument&#8217;s field of view from 8:00 a.m. EDT (1200 GMT) on April 2 through to 1:00 a.m. EDT (0500 GMT) on April 6.
