For a while, users have been saying that the home page has looked dated, and it seems like it’s finally time to see an updated variation.

The update features various new changes, which are more game-focused. It’s comprised of about nine features, with some updates to the look, new sections, and new functionalities to the store page, which seems like a general win for browseability as a whole.

For years, the store page has looked a bit distinct in various areas, as new pieces were appended to the previous one, offering varying levels of information. Cohesiveness is the primary purpose of the store update, as it gives every section the same information and look, making it fit together nicely.

The features and recommended section are also receiving a change. Being at the top of the store page, it is now a bigger section and offers more information, including its relevance (such as being a top seller at the time), trailers whenever hovering over the image, and the audience score. The hover-over trailers, however, are removable as an option, allowing you to instead focus on the images if you’re not a fan of the videos.

Next up is the Discovery Queue, which now opens a pop-up rather than lead to an entirely different site. Previously, the Discovery Queue took users through all the store pages individually, which made it a bit of a loading nightmare, and then returning to the homepage was problematic after the fact, instead having to restart the entire browsing experience.

The new pop-up variation instead blurs out the store page and takes over the front of the app, showing the trailer of the game, its price, user-generated tags, the user score, and why the game is relevant. Users who are interested in checking out the title further will then be able to click the store page button to see everything. Otherwise, they can wishlist straight from the Discovery Queue or ignore.

One noticeable change is that the new Discovery Queue does not offer images; instead, it is solely focused on the trailer. It’s not the best change, since plenty of titles prefer animated trailers, so it removes the capability to know the game’s look and art style at a glance. Though still being in beta, it’s likely Valve will change this if given enough feedback.

Hover states have also been updated, giving more information to the user that’s relevant to the purchase overall. From the game’s short description, another look at the audience score, and the user tags, it’s a small rehaul that still makes window shopping easier.

There are two new sections in the store that are entirely new: a wishlist one that features games at a discount on the user’s wishlist, and another that shows DLC at a discount for games the player owns. The section features some of the games that are on sale, with a dedicated store page in a clickable button to follow through and check further.

Finally, Steam is joining in on infinite scrolling. The user can keep scrolling through the page to keep searching for new titles, and it offers various sections, including tags that the player interacts with often, games recommended by friends, games similar to others in the wishlist, and games similar to recently played titles.

Each of the individual recommendations comes with a quick look at all of the screenshots and four buttons: Visit Product Page, Add to your wishlist, Ignore, and Find More like this. It gives browseability a bit of a boost, but it doesn’t feel like Steam’s infinite scrolling was a necessary change.

If you’re interested in checking out the new look, you can do so by participating in the Steam beta. You can follow our guide here if you’ve never done it before!

On the 1st of April, Valve surprisingly didn’t release an April Fools’ joke, but instead launched the latest…

[6
2664,6660,85,152135,46,5778,7465,35378,37081,125,12362,9059,180264
0":"post-375706","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-technology","8":"tag-features","9":"tag-games","10":"tag-il","11":"tag-instead","12":"tag-israel","13":"tag-like","14":"tag-look","15":"tag-page","16":"tag-store","17":"tag-technology","18":"tag-user","19":"tag-users","20":"tag-wishlist
["GET
