Three gemologists have\u00a0opened\u00a0Swiss International\u00a0Gemlab\u00a0(SIG), which will use a proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) system to\u00a0assist\u00a0grading and consistency.\u00a0<\/p>\n
SIG, the brainchild of senior gemologists Willy Bieri, Lawrence Hahn and Matthias Alessandri, will have locations in\u00a0Lucerne, Switzerland, and\u00a0Hong Kong, the lab said last week. The\u00a0gem experts, who have worked together for more than a decade, believe the new offering will provide faster results, greater\u00a0transparency\u00a0and scientific rigor, free from external influence, it explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The lab will provide the \u201cfull spectrum\u201d of services for colored gemstones, including identification and origin determination, treatment\u00a0analysis\u00a0and color grading. It will also use SIG-AI Assistance, a proprietary system that cross-references\u00a0analytical data against structured databases to flag anomalies, improve consistency across reports and reduce interpretation time, the organization\u00a0stated.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The lab\u2019s standard turnaround time will be five business days, with\u00a0an\u00a0option\u00a0for faster service for more urgent jobs, it said. It will also provide real-time status tracking.\u00a0<\/p>\n
SIG will debut at this year\u2019s\u00a0GemGen\u00e8ve\u00a0in May, offering\u00a0on-the-spot gemological services to exhibitors.\u00a0<\/p>\n
