{"id":378544,"date":"2026-04-06T22:05:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T22:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/378544\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T22:05:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T22:05:08","slug":"blood-biomarker-found-for-lynch-syndrome-cancer-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/378544\/","title":{"rendered":"Blood Biomarker Found for Lynch Syndrome Cancer Risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HOUSTON, APRIL 6, 2026 \u2015 Researchers at  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdanderson.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center<\/a>  have discovered a new blood-based biomarker that can help identify and characterize asymptomatic people with  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdanderson.org\/cancerwise\/qa-understanding-and-managing-lynch-syndrome.h00-158589789.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lynch Syndrome (LS)<\/a>  who are more susceptible to developing cancer based on early immune detection signatures, allowing clinicians to stratify patients based on their personal risk level.<\/p>\n<p>The study, published in  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-026-71243-z\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nature Communications<\/a> , was led by  <a href=\"https:\/\/faculty.mdanderson.org\/profiles\/eduardo_vilarsanchez.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eduardo Vilar-Sanchez, M.D., Ph.D.<\/a> , chair ad interim of  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdanderson.org\/research\/departments-labs-institutes\/departments-divisions\/clinical-cancer-prevention.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clinical Cancer Prevention<\/a> . The results advance our understanding of T cell responses in LS carriers, providing personalized insights for early cancer detection, monitoring and therapeutic interventions for these individuals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Providing a potential non-invasive blood test to track cancer risk and immune activity in patients with Lynch Syndrome is a tremendous step forward for this patient population,&#8221; Vilar-Sanchez said. &#8220;These are valuable insights into immune responses that can help personalize the way we monitor and direct prevention strategies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What is Lynch Syndrome and why did the researchers examine blood samples?<\/p>\n<p>Lynch Syndrome is a hereditary condition involving mutations in the germline of DNA mismatch repair genes. People with LS have a genetic predisposition to develop cancers with  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdanderson.org\/cancerwise\/what-is-microsatellite-instability-MSI.h00-159617067.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">microsatellite instability<\/a> , especially  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdanderson.org\/cancer-types\/colorectal-cancer.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">colorectal<\/a>  and  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdanderson.org\/cancer-types\/endometrial-cancer.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">endometrial cancer<\/a> , and they often develop cancers at a younger age than the general population. Having a way to understand an individual&#8217;s level of risk for developing cancer could help clinicians offer appropriate surveillance and intervention to improve outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>These microsatellite mutations, which result in insertions or deletions of DNA sequences, also create tumor-specific neoantigens. These neoantigens are protein fragments on cancer cells that T cells recognize as foreign, triggering an immune response. The researchers sequenced T cell receptors (TCR), which help T cells identify and attack threatening neoantigens on cancer cells.<\/p>\n<p>    \/Public Release.
