With the live production\u00a0Peppa Pig: My First Concert\u00a0coming to the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater this month, PETA sent a letter to the venue today, calling on it to honor Peppa and her friends by serving exclusively vegan concessions the day of the show. PETA has offered to provide delicious, Peppa-friendly vegan pepperoni for the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeppa\u2019s young fans would be horrified to learn that the pepperoni and cheese pizza served at The Fred is taken from clever, playful animals just like the characters they adore,\u201d says PETA President Tracy Reiman. \u201cPETA is urging the theater to nurture young people\u2019s natural empathy by serving delicious vegan snacks.\u201d<\/p>\n
Peppa Pig theme parks in the U.S. don\u2019t serve pig meat in their Miss Rabbit\u2019s Diners\u2014and after hearing from PETA UK, a theater in the U.K. removed pig products for its live production of\u00a0Peppa Pig\u2019s Big Family Show.<\/p>\n
PETA\u00a0points out<\/a>\u00a0that real pigs are just as enamored with muddy puddles as Peppa herself, dream when they sleep, recognize their own names, and show empathy for other pigs who are happy or distressed. But those raised and killed for food are denied everything natural and important to them and spend their entire lives confined to filthy, crowded sheds before being sent to slaughter, often at just six months old\u2014even younger than Peppa\u2019s new baby sister, Evie.<\/p>\n PETA\u2014whose motto reads, in part, that \u201canimals are not ours to eat\u201d\u2014points out that Every Animal Is Someone<\/a>\u00a0and offers free\u00a0Empathy Kits<\/a>\u00a0for people who need a lesson in kindness.
