The four-month wait for a new episode is almost over as Krypto Saves the Day!<\/a> is officially flying back onto HBO Max next week.<\/p>\n

The series of animated shorts serves as a follow-up to James Gunn’s Superman (2025)<\/a>, following the titular Krypto the Superdog as he goes on several lighthearted adventures in Metropolis. The first episode, “School Bus Scuffle,” was released in August 2025, followed by “Halloween Havoc” in October 2025 and “Package Pandemonium” in November 2025, with plans to release more episodes in 2026.<\/p>\n

Now, Warner Bros. Disovery<\/a> has announced that Krypto Saves the Day: Coastal Catastrophe will release on HBO Max on April 18, the first episode in the series of animated shorts since November 2025.<\/p>\n

Written and directed by Ryan Kramer, with James Gunn serving as an executive producer, Krypto Saves the Day! follows the titular super-powered dog and Clark Kent’s pet as he goes on several lighthearted adventures in Metropolis, including dealing with a candy crisis, helping build a snowman, and saving a spring break cruise ship.<\/p>\n

Each episode follows a seasonal theme, with the second centered on Halloween, the third on winter, and the upcoming fourth episode focused on summer.<\/p>\n

Is Krypto Saves The Day! Canon To The DCU?<\/p>\n

After the first episode was released in August 2025, James Gunn confirmed that Krypto Saves the Day! is not considered canon within the DC Universe (DCU) of movies and television shows<\/a>. However, the series of animated shorts does serve as a follow-up to James Gunn’s Superman (2025), which introduced the beloved dog to the DCU. <\/p>\n

Additionally, Superman does appear in the series of shorts, making his second animated appearance in the DCU after his earlier appearance in the Creature Commandos<\/a> episode “Chasing Squirrels” in 2024.<\/p>\n

Krypto Saves The Day! Ramps Up Anticipation For Supergirl This Summer<\/p>\n

With a summer-themed episode releasing on April 18, Krypto Saves the Day! should help ramp up anticipation for the DCU’s new Supergirl movie<\/a>, releasing on June 26. Though Kryto was introduced in James Gunn’s Superman in 2025, the ending of that movie revealed that the canine actually belongs to his cousin Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl (Mily Alcock).<\/p>\n

Releasing this summer, Supergirl’s solo film will follow Kara Zor-El as she celebrates her 23rd birthday by traveling across the galaxy with Krypto.<\/p>\n
