Kristen Bell<\/a> went viral for oversharing about her marriage to Dax Shepard<\/a>, and somehow her husband was one of the last to know.<\/p>\n

The actress caused controversy<\/a> back in October with an Instagram post celebrating her 12th anniversary. In the caption, Bell joked that Shepard had once promised “I would never kill you,” a sentiment that many of her 16 million followers didn\u2019t find funny. She eventually had to restrict comments on the post, as the backlash intensified for being “insensitive” and downplaying domestic violence.<\/p>\n

Now, nearly six months later, Shepard is revealing what went on behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I was alerted by someone that this whole thing was happening,\u201d he revealed Monday on his podcast, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard<\/a>, with featured guest Nikki Glaser. \u201cKristen knew through her publicist, but didn\u2019t tell me. So, I actually didn\u2019t know, and this was brought to my attention [after] a week and a half\u2026 I had no clue.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Shepard recalled to the comedian, \u201csomeone comforted me, and I had to go to Kristen, like, \u2018What are they talking about?\u2019 She\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, that post I had.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Bell\u2019s post in question was a photo of her and Shepard embracing with the caption: \u201cHappy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: \u2018I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I\u2019m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Glaser broached the topic of the anniversary ode when she confessed to Shepard she had planned to joke about it in her monologue at the 2026 Golden Globes in January.<\/p>\n

“But I didn\u2019t do it because I\u2019m friends with you,\u201d the comedian said. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t want to make his life harder.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely want to hear it,\u201d Shepard pushed.<\/p>\n

Glaser pulled up the joke on her iPhone. “Die, My Love. If I Had Legs, I\u2019d Kick You. Sorry, Baby,\u201d she read. \u201cThese are not just Dax Shepard captions for his anniversary post. These are movies nominated tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shepard laughed heartily, as Glaser explained why she ended up cutting the joke: \u201cI didn\u2019t do it because, also like, it was old news by then.\u201d<\/p>\n

But as he revealed, the couple\u2019s oversharing was very much a hot topic on the Golden Globes red carpet.<\/p>\n

By then, people had moved on to a joint interview they did with Cher<\/a>, Bell\u2019s co-star in 2010\u2019s Burlesque, in which the music icon didn\u2019t hide her reservations<\/a> about Shepard.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re lucky,\u201d quipped the \u201cBelieve\u201d singer. \u201cShe\u2019s\u00a0definitely\u00a0the better half\u2026 you must have something that I don\u2019t see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Days later, when the couple hit the Golden Globes, \u201cevery interview we did was about Cher,\u201d Shepard told Glaser.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thing that drives me nuts is, like, we released it. We posted it,\u201d he continued. \u201cI think it\u2019s hilarious. That\u2019s why I posted it.\u201d<\/p>\n
