\n\tKanye West<\/a> will not be allowed to play the Wireless festival<\/a> in London this summer after U.K. officials blocked his application to travel to the country, the BBC<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

\n\tWest (who now goes by Ye) reportedly filed a travel application with the U.K.\u2019s Home Office on Monday. The Home Office denied West\u2019s requests, reportedly on the grounds that his presence would \u201cnot be conducive to the public good,\u201d per the BBC.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing the news, Wireless Festival announced it would cancel the event. \u201cAs a result of the Home Office banning Ye from entering the United Kingdom, Wireless Festival has been forced to cancel. All ticket holders will receive an automatic full refund.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA rep for West did not immediately return a request for comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast week, West announced a three-night run at London\u2019s annual Wireless Festival. The announcement came as West readied large-scale performances around the world, including dates in France, Mexico City, and Los Angeles, where he recently played two sold-out nights at SoFi Stadium<\/a>. Almost immediately, British commentators and public officials condemned the festival\u2019s booking, with London mayor Sadiq Khan saying the decision was \u201cnot reflective of London\u2019s values,\u201d while Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the situation \u201cdeeply concerning,\u201d citing Ye\u2019s past antisemitic<\/a> remarks<\/a> and the need to ensure safety for Jewish communities.<\/p>\n

\n\tOver the weekend, Pepsi withdrew<\/a> its sponsorship of the festival, citing the rapper\u2019s history of antisemitic remarks. On Monday, one of the event\u2019s major partners, Diageo, also confirmed it would withdraw support, while PayPal announced it was reviewing its involvement with the festival.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmid the backlash, Wireless festival boss Melvin Benn defended the booking<\/a>. While he called West\u2019s past comments \u201cabhorrent,\u201d he added, \u201cI would ask people to reflect on their instant comments of disgust at the likelihood of him performing (as was mine) and offer some forgiveness and hope to him as I have decided to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWest did apologize<\/a> to to various religious leaders for his past remarks, and in a January interview with Vanity Fair, cited years of mental health challenges as a source of his behavior. Before the U.K.\u2019s Home Office announced its decision, West also offered to meet<\/a> with members of the Jewish community in the U.K.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe move recalls Tyler, the Creator being barred from entering the United Kingdom in 2015 after the Home Office cited lyrics from earlier projects like Bastard and Goblin in determining that his presence was a public safety concern. The ban, which Tyler publicly criticized at the time, kept him from performing in the U.K. until it was lifted in 2019.<\/p>\n
