{"id":379742,"date":"2026-04-07T15:29:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T15:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/379742\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T15:29:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T15:29:10","slug":"civil-service-pension-scheme-capita-confirms-data-breach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/379742\/","title":{"rendered":"Civil Service Pension Scheme: Capita confirms data breach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A data breach on the Civil Service Pension Scheme portal last week meant some members of the scheme received personal data relating to other members.<\/p>\n<p>Capita said 138 members of the scheme either received personal Annual Benefit Statements data belonging to other members and\/or had their personal data seen by other members.<\/p>\n<p>In an update to members, the firm said the breach was \u201cidentified quickly, ABS functionality was immediately suspended, and a full investigation undertaken\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The firm said all impacted members would be written to by 9am on 3 April 2026 via secure message. It said that, for members who haven&#8217;t received\u00a0correspondence, this means\u00a0their data was not impacted in any way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe sincerely apologise for this issue and any concerns you may have,\u201d Capita said. \u201cWe take the protection of members\u2019 personal data extremely seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It added that ABS request functionality on the portal remains offline whilst it fixes\u00a0the underlying cause of the breach.<\/p>\n<p>A Cabinet Office spokesperson said: &#8220;We are aware of the incident and take the issue extremely seriously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile only a very small number of members were affected, we are working with Capita to establish the facts and ensure appropriate measures are taken. We will consider further action as required.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the breach, Fran Heathcote, the general secretary of the PCS union, said: \u201cThis is yet another hammer blow to members\u2019 confidence in the administration of their pensions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis government came to office promising the biggest wave of insourcing in a generation. With every failure like this, the case for bringing essential services back in-house gets stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The incident comes amid a crisis in the 1.7 million-member scheme following the transfer of its administration from MyCSP to Capita,\u00a0with\u00a0thousands of retired civil servants being left without regular payments or lump sums in recent months as\u00a0Capita has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.civilserviceworld.com\/professions\/article\/capita-civil-service-pension-scheme-backlog-cabinet-office-told-prepare-cat-little\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">struggled\u00a0to deal with an inherited backlog <\/a>of more than 80,000 cases.<\/p>\n<p>Capita has committed to provide normal service levels by the end of June.
