Think again<\/p>\n<p>\n  From this month, the state pension age is officially on the move &#8211; creeping up from 66 to 67.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  And it\u2019s not happening all at once.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Instead, the increase is being rolled out in monthly increments, meaning something as small as your exact date of birth could delay your retirement by weeks \u2014 or even months.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Industry experts warn many people simply don\u2019t realise this is happening.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Zoe Alexander, of Pensions UK, says the change is already causing confusion &#8211; and could leave some facing a financial shock.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cA single day\u2019s difference in your birthday can shift your state pension age,\u201d she warns.\n<\/p>\n<p>  The \u2018gap year\u2019 trap hitting pensioners hard<\/p>\n<p>\n  For those planning to retire at 66, the changes could create an unexpected &#8211; and potentially dangerous &#8211; gap.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  You might stop working\u2026 only to find your state pension doesn\u2019t arrive for months.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Experts are calling this a \u201cfinancial gap year\u201d &#8211; and it could leave thousands scrambling for cash.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Recommended reading:\n<\/p>\n<p>  One-day difference that could change your retirement &#8211; check yours now<\/p>\n<p>\n  If you think this is a one-off change, think again. The rise to 67 is only phase one.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Plans are already in place to push the state pension age to 68 between 2044 and 2046 &#8211; and there are warnings it could happen even sooner.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Rachel Vahey, from AJ Bell, says future increases are highly likely as the Government battles rising costs from an ageing population: &#8220;While the increase in the state pension age to 67 will come as a shock to many, this is very much the beginning rather than the end of this story.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Under current plans, the state pension age will rise again to 68 between 2044 and 2046.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  While the changes will save the Treasury billions &#8211; around \u00a310bn a year, according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies &#8211; research shows raising the pension age can actually push more people into poverty.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Those hit hardest?
