So, you know, it wasn’t like too painful,” Barber, 49, shared. “And so I’m waking up from the anesthesia …This was like three weeks before I graduated from high school. Anyways, we watched the Bronco chase as I was, like, coming out of anesthesia.”<\/p>\n She continued: “As I was waking up from anesthesia, the Bronco chase was happening. And so my parents, we, you know, had it on the radio. People were watching it in the hospital.”<\/p>\n “So I just was like, ‘What did I wake up to? Like, what is happening right now that O.J. Simpson’s being chased down the freeway? ‘ ” Barber said, adding: “That was a fever dream. Play now!<\/a><\/p>\n The now-notorious Bronco chase occurred when Simpson, who died at age 76<\/a> in April 2024, was ordered to turn himself into police<\/a> on June 17, 1994 following the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson<\/a>. Simpson and her friend, waiter Ronald Goldman, were stabbed to death<\/a> on June 12, 1994. Their bodies were found outside of her Los Angeles-area home in the early hours of June 13.<\/p>\n But Simpson did not follow orders, and his whereabouts remained unknown until that evening, after 6 p.m. local time, when he was spotted in a Bronco with close friend and former NFL teammate Al Cowlings, driving down a Southern California interstate.<\/p>\n Featured On: https:\/\/people-app.onelink.me\/HNIa\/kz7l4cuf<\/a><\/p>\n Swarms of police vehicles and news helicopters began pursuing Simpson as the car traveled to the athlete’s home in Brentwood, with the chase continuing for 60 miles at low speeds. As curious onlookers pulled over to watch, millions at home tuned in, too.<\/p>\n The Bronco ultimately arrived at Simpson’s L.A.-area home at 8 p.m., with police, and snipers, surrounding the house. Simpson eventually exited the vehicle \u2014 in which the LAPD found makeup adhesive, a fake mustache and goatee, Simpson\u2019s passport and a gun \u2014 and surrendered to authorities.
