Plenty of actors have publicly named and shamed the costars<\/a> or directors<\/a> who treated them poorly on set. Sometimes, however, they choose to share their struggles while keeping the person’s name a secret, whether out of fear of retribution that could put their own careers at risk or to keep an irrelevant person from getting attention, because the best revenge is success.Here are 23 times actors called out their costars or crew, but wouldn’t name them:1. Describing an acting note she “took personally,” Lili Reinhart told Cosmopolitan<\/a>, “When I had a male director come up to me and silently lean over and go, ‘Just suck in your stomach a little.'”\"Her<\/p>\n

2. Previously, in a 2017 Tumblr<\/a> post, Lili Reinhart wrote, “In light of the Harvey Weinstein allegations\u2026 I feel the need to share a story of my own personal experience where a man in a position of power over me, used that said power to try and take advantage of me. I was a teenager working on a project.. when I started to have a crush on a guy I was working with. He was incredibly charming and charismatic\u2013 we flirted for a while before we went on our first date. He was pretty significantly older than me, but I thought of myself as mature so it didn’t seem like a big deal. … All that matters is that he tried to force himself on me when we were on a date.”\"<span><\/p>\n

She continued, “Days following, he grew angry at the situation and became defensive about it and his actions. Claiming that I was ‘a tease’ and ‘the most manipulative woman he’d ever met.’ His ego was bruised to say the least, because I refused to engage with him sexually that night. He refused to talk to me. I remember begging him to come outside his trailer so we could talk. I needed clarity on the situation. I felt like I had genuinely done something wrong\u2013 that maybe I really was being a tease to him and led him to believe that I wanted to be with him sexually.”\"<span><\/p>\n

3. Margot Robbie<\/a> had an unnamed male costar gift her a weight-loss book totally unprompted. She told Complex’s GOAT Talk<\/a>, “Very, very early in my career, an actor I worked with \u2014 a male actor \u2014 gave me a book called Why French Women Don’t Get Fat. It was essentially a book telling you to eat less. I was like, ‘Woah, **** you, dude.’ He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight. … That was a very long [time ago]. I have no idea where he would even be now. Really back in the day.”\"<\/p>\n

4. In her 2024 memoir Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative<\/a>, Keke Palmer<\/a> alleged that one of her white Scream Queens costars \u2014 whom she assigned the pseudonym “Brenda” \u2014 directed a racially charged remark toward her after a clash with another person on set. Keke tried to help Brenda chill out by suggesting they all “have fun and respect each other.” Brenda purportedly replied, “Keke, literally, just don’t. Who do you think you are? Martin ******* Luther King?”\"<\/p>\n

Keke told the LA Times<\/a>, “It was such a weighted thing that she said, but I didn’t allow that weight to be projected on me, because I know who I am. I’m not no victim. That’s not my storyline, sweetie. I don’t care what her *** said. If I allow what she said to cripple me, then she would.”\"On<\/p>\n

5. Recalling the worst behavior she’d witnessed from a Friends guest star, Lisa Kudrow told Watch What Happens Live<\/a>, “The worst behavior? Just off the top of my head? I rehearsed [the show] without makeup most of the week, and then on show night, I’m in hair and makeup. And I was told [by the guest star], ‘Oh wow, now you’re’ \u2014 can I say it? \u2014 ‘now you’re ********.’ That’s bad behavior, I say. … I told Matt LeBlanc. He’s like a big brother.”\"<\/p>\n

6. On Watch What Happens Live<\/a>, Dan Levy said, “We had a [Schitt’s Creek] guest star at one point who was very difficult to our wardrobe team, and I cut them out of the show.”\"<\/p>\n

7. Sarah Wayne Callies told Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson & Olivia Allen<\/a> that she faced “rampant misogyny” while filming Prison Break, where she was “the only woman around.” She said, “I’ve had an actor on that show spit in my face, and I was like, ‘*********.’ … There were things, like, I would go home some nights and have to spend an hour talking my husband out of going to hospitalize somebody.”\"She<\/p>\n

8. Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a> told Variety<\/a>, “I always said, ‘Beware of the people in life that get more [out] of the advice they give you than you get [out of] the advice.’ They’re thrilled by the act of giving you advice. All of a sudden, you can’t listen to what they’re saying anymore because they’re flexing on you so hard. … I had an actor do that to me once. No names, but the guy was a punk. He asked me what conservatory I had gone to, and I said I didn’t go to an acting conservatory. And he said, ‘Well, you haven’t trained as an actor then.’ And we were all part of an ensemble.”\"<\/p>\n

9. Previously, BBC Radio 1<\/a> asked Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a> about the “smelliest actor” he’s worked with. He replied, “I’m not gonna say any names ’cause, you know, that would just be mean. But I did work on a Western years ago, and somebody was \u2014 quote, unquote \u2014 ‘in character’ the whole time, and, uh, it was something. It was quite something on set. That waft coming in every day. They just weren’t washing, and the nails…I was there for two months, but they were really committed. Not too many descriptive details, I’ll give it away. This gentleman’s wife came, and she, you know, they were very in love. She didn’t care.”\"He<\/p>\n

10. When Chlo\u00eb Grace Moretz was 15, she was allegedly fat-shamed by a male costar in his early 20s. She told Variety<\/a>, “This guy that was my love interest was like, ‘I’d never date you in real life,’ and I was like, ‘What?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, you’re too big for me’ \u2014 as in my size. It was one of the only actors that ever made me cry on set.”\"She<\/p>\n

11. Chlo\u00eb Grace Moretz also told Variety<\/a>, “I’ve had a younger male lead ostracize me and bring up fake issues just to try and put me in my place, and make things up to the director\u2026things that are crazy, things that I would never do, unprofessional things that would make no sense. I’ve had an actor do that to me. It’s crazy. They have this inferiority issue, and I’m like, ‘You are completely equal to me; you are no different than me. I just happen to be the lead in this movie, and I don’t know why, just because you are kind of the smaller character, that you’re pushing me into a corner to try and put me down.’ Little snips that just put you down.”\"<\/p>\n

12. On the Reign with Josh Smith<\/a> podcast, Rebecca Ferguson<\/a> said that she stood up for herself and refused to work with an unnamed “absolute idiot of a costar” who bullied her. She said, “I remember there was a moment and this human being was being so insecure and angry because this person couldn’t get the scenes out. I think I was so vulnerable and uncomfortable that I got screamed at. But because this person was number one on a call sheet, there was no safety net for me. So no one had my back. And I would cry walking off set.”\"She<\/p>\n

As Rebecca’s comments went viral, several of her famous former costars \u2014 including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt \u2014 spoke out<\/a> in her support. She told The<\/a> Jess Cagle Show<\/a>, “I kind of enjoyed the grab. But what I realized even at the age that I am now\u2026it doesn’t matter.”\"She<\/p>\n

13. On Tour\u00e9 Show<\/a>, Leslie Jones called the director who shot her digital shorts about being in a relationship with Kyle Mooney “a ******* *******.” She added, “And I don’t give a **** if you see this… You still are probably a ******* ********. A ******* narcissistic ********. He’s just, like, one of the white boys who thought that he’s doing ******* Shakespeare. No, this is a ******* sketch, and you’re not funny, and you’re not creating nothing beautiful. You’re just being an ******* with this tedious **** ****.”\"<span>She added, “Me and Tiffany [Haddish, who hosted in 2017] almost ****** him up one night.” She said that the shoot was running late because the director was making everyone wait for Lorne Michaels to arrive and film his part. Having already cut her hand on her wedding dress costume, Leslie decided to leave, which allegedly upset the director. She said, “This ************ was like, ‘What makes you so ******* special?’ And I was like, ‘Who the **** you talking to?’ ‘You, I’m talking to you. What makes you so ******* special? Lorne is this, this, and this.’ And I said, ‘************, I know you’re not ******* talking to me. What makes me special is that the ******* sketch is about me and Kyle, not you. So what the ****?'”\"She14. Danielle Fishel told Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe<\/a>, “There was one time I went into a meeting with a showrunner that I greatly respected, and I knew of his work. I thought he was extremely talented. He had done a bunch of stuff, and I had a show idea I wanted to pitch for him, and I went in, and he was like, ‘Yes, come in, I’m so excited to talk to you about this idea.’ And I pitched it to him, and he completely, I mean, immediately disregarded it. Then [he] proceeded to tell me what show he did think I should do that was starring me, even though the project I was there to pitch was a kid show, but it should be starring me. He brought up my Maxim cover and talked about certain parts of my body, and then I was like, ‘OK,’ and I said, ‘I don’t want to talk about that. I would feel more comfortable talking about the thing I’m here to talk about.'”\"<\/p>\n

She continued, “And he went right back to parts of my body and, like, in his mind, in a very positive way. In a positive way, about certain parts of my body, and I just felt very shut down. Like, no matter what I say\u2026 I’ve already said, ‘I don’t want to talk about this,’ it’s still going to happen. And then, I left that meeting, and I had to send him an email about it. I said, ‘Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me. I know how busy you are, really respect you, I do, though, have to tell you that made me very uncomfortable.’ And he wrote me back and told me that he had no idea how I’d made it this far in the industry if I had such thin skin, and that I was entirely wrong for feeling any way about it.”\"<span><\/p>\n

15. On The Howard Stern Show<\/a>, Charlize Theron recalled the audition where a “very big deal” director allegedly sexually harrassed her. She said, “It was my first audition ever. I had just turned 19. I might’ve still been 18. I had never been out for an audition. I asked this modeling agent if she heard of anything, that I was gonna give this acting thing a try. She said, ‘Yep. Go to this guy’s house. It’s on Saturday at 9 [p.m.]’ … I knocked on the door, and he opened up the door, and he was in his pajamas. … We sat down, and we started to talk. He sat very close to me. That was strange.” She asked if he wanted her to read the pages she’d brought, but he insisted they could just “talk.” Then, after he put his hand on her knee, she realized what was happening, so she left.\"She<\/p>\n

Several years later, Charlize told Call Her Daddy<\/a> that the director heard her allegations. She said, “This guy, he got a little nervous for a while there. I’ve never said his name because, honestly, I don’t want the story to be about him. It’s not because I’m protecting him or anything, but he got nervous for a little bit. He heard me tell the story, and he knew it was about him, and he wrote me a pretend letter trying to explain his behavior and how I must have misunderstood it, which is classic, isn’t it?”\"She<\/p>\n

16. Jason Isaacs<\/a> told Vulture<\/a> that he once worked with a costar who was “the worst bully ever and a global icon.” He said, “Did all the old tricks of doing a completely different performance off-camera than on. Yeah, it sucked. I’d never seen anything like it. Before, I would’ve licked the ground that this person walked on.”\"He<\/p>\n

17. On a 2021 episode of her podcast Whine Down<\/a>, Jana Kramer alleged that one person “made it hell” for everyone else on the One Tree Hill set. She said, “When I was on the show…there was just some, not cattiness, but just, ‘You can’t talk to this person if you’re friends with this person.’ So I wasn’t very close to James [Lafferty] because of certain situations on the set at the time. But now, I mean everyone is really close, and it’s kind of frustrating because I’m like, ‘Why couldn’t we have all [been] friends then? And you made the newbies’ life a little bit of hell.’ But it’s cool.”\"She<\/p>\n

18. In 2020, Game of Thrones actor Nathalie Emmanuel told British Vogue<\/a>, “In my first season, my costume was pretty revealing, and there was an incident with an extra who made a comment about it on set \u2014 I mean, typical \u2014 and Emilia [Clarke] straightaway had my back. 19. After Blake Lively filed<\/a> a lawsuit against her It Ends With Us costar\/director Justin Baldoni, Abigail Breslin spoke out about the retaliation she personally faced after reporting a male costar’s behavior. In a Tumblr<\/a> post, she said, “In light of recent events regarding the attempt to destroy the career and livelihood of a fellow actress and woman, I have felt compelled to write this, as I have unfortunately been subject to the same toxic masculinity throughout my life. In my recent career, I’ve brought forward concerns about a male colleague and was deemed ‘hysterical.’ I was told my fears were figments of my imagination. Now, as I’m seeing this pattern pop up more, I realize this is the norm…”\"<\/p>\n

She continued, “When a suit was filed against me by a former employer, (the suit was withdrawn), after making a confidential complaint against a coworker for unprofessional behavior, I had the silly and naive impression they would believe me. I am not known as a liar in my field of work, no matter how vocal I may be. Hence, why I’ve been working for 25 years. Instead of being believed and protected, a suit was filed against me for having the audacity to speak up. I was publicly shamed and defamed in the process. A reputation I had cultivated for over 2 decades had now been tainted as I became the crazy, paranoid and to quote directly, ‘hysterical and wild’ woman, who apparently just had it in for men. My previous abuse was also brought up as ‘unfounded claims’, and I was made to seem like someone who just goes after men, rather than being seen as someone who has been dealing as a professional in this world, since I was a child, standing up for herself.”\"<span><\/p>\n

20. Melissa McCarthy told the Guardian<\/a>, “I did work for someone once who ran such a volatile, hostile set that it made me physically ill. My eyes were swelling up. I was absorbing all of this nuttiness. There were people weeping, visibly so upset by this one person. And I think that’s why the manipulation worked, because to get to me, this person would fire people I loved, which kept me quiet. It was very effective. Then one day, I was like, ‘It stops today!’ I just kept saying to them, ‘It stops, it stops.’ And I know now I’ll never keep quiet again.”\"sparkling<\/p>\n

21. On a 2023 episode of his podcast Brotherly Love<\/a>, Matthew Lawrence<\/a> said, “It’s a real thing, the casting couch, we all know it existed. … There’s been many times in my life where I’ve been propositioned to get a huge role. I’ve lost my agency because I went to the hotel room \u2014 which I can’t believe they would send me to \u2014 of a very prominent, Oscar-winning director, who showed up in his robe, asked me to take my clothes off, and said he needed to take polaroids of me. And then, if I did X, Y, and Z, I would be the next ‘Marvel’ character. I didn’t do that, and my agency fired me because I left this director’s room.” He used air quotes around “Marvel,” implying he was only using it as an example.\"<\/p>\n

22. Melanie Lynskey told Rolling Stone<\/a> that, on the Yellowjackets set, a production member allegedly criticized her body. She said, “They were asking me, ‘What do you plan to do? I’m sure the producers will get you a trainer. They’d love to help you with this.'” However, Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, and Tawny Cypress supported her. Juliette even wrote the producers a letter concerning the situation.\"Melanie<\/p>\n

23. And finally, in her 2025 essay collection Does This Make Me Funny?<\/a>, Zosia Mamet recalled an alleged horrible experience she had as a newbie on a successful show. Already nervous, she arrived earlier than her 6 a.m. call time and was whisked into hair and makeup. The showrunner’s assistant and the hair department head talked about her as if she weren’t there, expressing shock and concern over how long her hair was. After texting a picture of her hair to someone, the assistant said, “He doesn’t like it. You need to cut a bob, and we need her on set in five for a blocking rehearsal, with short hair.” She wrote, “[The hairdresser] held up a straight razor. That’s when she told me she couldn’t find her scissors, and this would have to do. And then, without so much as asking me, she went to work.”\"<\/p>\n

Despite the haircut, Zosia had a blast on set for the rest of the season. She was asked to return for another season, but after the showrunner publicly berated her, she quit. While she was rehearsing a scene, he yelled cut, walked over to her menacingly, and asked, “What the **** are you doing?” He then spent the next half hour berating her for taking photos out of an envelope “wrong.” She wrote, “Everyone just stared at their shoes while he screamed at me. Eventually, we finished the blocking rehearsal and shot the scene. I finished my day. I walked to my car and called my agents and told them I quit. I was supposed to do four more episodes that season, not including the one I was on, but I told them I didn’t care what they had to do. I didn’t care if the network sued me. I refused to go back on that set for one more day than I actually had to. I don’t remember anything else about the rest of that shoot. I think I’ve blocked it out.”\"She<\/p>\n
