US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Iran will not be allowed to enrich uranium, asserting that the United States will work with Iran to dig up its stockpiles of highly-enriched uranium.<\/p>\n

There was no indication that Iran has agreed to comply with either of these points, and they are likely to be subject to negotiations that are slated to begin on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States will work closely with Iran, which we have determined has gone through what will be a very productive regime change!\u201d Trump wrote in a Truth Social post<\/a>, even though the Islamic Republic has not fallen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be no enrichment of uranium, and the United States will, working with Iran, dig up and remove all of the deeply buried (B-2 bombers) nuclear \u2018dust,\u2019\u201d he added, referring to the results of the June 2025 strikes on Iran\u2019s nuclear enrichment sites.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is now, and has been, under very exacting satellite surveillance (space force!). Nothing has been touched from the date of attack.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a subsequent post, Trump added<\/a>, \u201cA country supplying military weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions!\u201d<\/p>\n

Back in the first post, Trump said, \u201cMany of the 15 points have already been agreed to.\u201d<\/p>\n

He notably appeared to make Washington\u2019s 15-point plan for ending the war the basis of negotiations with Iran, even though his post<\/a> announcing the ceasefire said Iran\u2019s 10-point response would be the basis for talks.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Iranian officials and state media published on Thursday what they said were the contents of the 10-point response on which the US had agreed to negotiate.<\/p>\n

That 10-point plan notably included continued Iranian control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, an end to international sanctions on the country, and \u201cacceptance\u201d of uranium enrichment.<\/p>\n

These items would run contrary to Washington\u2019s public statements about what it wants Iran to do.<\/p>\n

Trump lashed out when a number of media outlets began reporting on Iran\u2019s purported 10-point plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is only one group of meaningful \u2018POINTS\u2019 that are acceptable to the United States, and we will be discussing them behind closed doors during these negotiations,\u201d he said in a Truth Social Post.<\/p>\n

You started the war, but Iran will set the conditions for its end.<\/p>\n

US claims Iran\u2019s military \u2018combat ineffective\u2019<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that the US war against Iran has \u201ccompletely\u201d destroyed the country\u2019s ability to build missiles or other sophisticated weaponry.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWe finished completely destroying Iran\u2019s defense-industrial base, a core pillar of our mission,\u201d Hegseth told reporters. \u201cThey still shoot\u2026 here and there\u2026 but they can no longer build missiles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s missile fire on Israel has slowed to around 10-15 missiles a day in recent weeks, down from around 90 on the first day of the war.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Pentagon, Hegseth argued that Operation Epic Fury, the 38-day campaign against Iran, had \u201cdecimated Iran\u2019s military and rendered it combat ineffective for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the United States, using \u201cless than 10% of America\u2019s total combat power,\u201d dismantled one of the region\u2019s largest militaries. According to Pentagon figures, US forces struck more than 13,000 targets, destroyed about 80% of Iran\u2019s air defenses, sank most of Iran\u2019s navy, heavily damaged its missile and drone programs, and shattered much of its defense industrial base.<\/p>\n

At the same press conference, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine said the campaign met the president\u2019s three stated military objectives: destroying Iran\u2019s ballistic missile and drone capabilities, destroying the Iranian navy, and crippling Iran\u2019s defense industry so it cannot quickly rebuild. Pentagon officials also said Iran\u2019s command-and-control network has been so badly damaged that remaining forces cannot effectively coordinate operations.<\/p>\n

Iran was still firing both missiles and drones at its Gulf neighbors on Wednesday, undercutting Hegseth and Caine\u2019s claims of a decisive US victory over Iran.<\/p>\n

Israeli assessments also suggest that the Iranian threat is far from eliminated. On Saturday, Channel 12 reported, citing an Israeli Air Force intelligence officer, that the Israeli military believes Iran still has more than 1,000 ballistic missiles that can reach Israel, Channel 12 reported Saturday.<\/p>\n

Overnight Wednesday-Thursday, Iran launched several waves of ballistic missiles at Israel, triggering sirens across the nation. On Wednesday afternoon, Tehran launched drone and missile attacks<\/a> on Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates in retaliation against reported strikes targeting an oil refinery on Iran\u2019s Lavan Island.<\/p>\n

Hegseth, on the other hand, did hail the role Israel played in the war.<\/p>\n

On Iran\u2019s nuclear program, Hegseth echoed Trump\u2019s stance, saying the new Iranian leadership understands \u201cthey will never, ever possess\u201d a nuclear weapon. He said any uranium or nuclear material Iran should not have will be removed, and declared, \u201cThere will be no Iranian nuclear weapons. Period. Full stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also suggested that the war had fundamentally changed Tehran\u2019s leadership structure, referring to a \u201cnew regime\u201d that has now seen \u201cthe full capability of the United States military.\u201d He said that new leadership has \u201ca new calculus about what it means to negotiate with us.\u201d<\/p>\n
