Reinvigorated by returning players and playing at home, the Highlanders are looking to break the Brumbies’ five-game winning streak against them.<\/p>\n
Five-eighths Cameron Millar and Timoci Tavatavanawai will start, the first time Millar has been paired with halfback Nic Shearer, who had an outstanding debut in their last game.<\/p>\n
No8 Nikora Broughton will start. Taine Robinson will have his first game of the season at fullback after the injury suffered by Jacob Ratumaitavuki-Kneepkens. Lock Mitch Dunshea starts after recovering from a calf injury, while tighthead prop Saula Ma\u2019u will come off the bench for his first game since early in last year\u2019s NPC.<\/p>\n
Coach Jamie Joseph knows the depth of challenge the Highlanders face.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Brumbies are a class outfit and will test us across the field. We\u2019re happy to be back home and to have a few of our starters returning. These middle-round games are important for every team, and we\u2019re looking forward to the contest.\u201d<\/p>\n
Returning players will also boost the Brumbies. Having their first games of the season will be prop Allan Alaalatoa and substitute hooker Lachlan Lonergan, who have recovered from respective back and knee injuries.<\/p>\n
Coach Stephen Larkham said they made use of the bye week to ensure Alaalatoa had some extra time to be ready.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was itching to get out there before the bye, but we held him back a little. He\u2019s one of those guys, a little bit like James Slipper, and some of the other senior players, who want to be part of the team every week. He learned some lessons of where his body is at and how to manage a longer season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brumbies halfback Ryan Lonergan will play his 100th Super Rugby game while hooker Billy Pollard will play his 50th.<\/p>\n
The Brumbies have won their last three Super Rugby Pacific matches against New Zealand opposition, something they haven\u2019t achieved since 2005.<\/p>\n

Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi, a Rotorua Boys\u2019 High School old boy, will come off the bench at halfback. He said that while the game is a \u2018home\u2019 game for Moana Pasifika, Rotorua is a rugby town where the local fans will be keen to see the players up close.<\/p>\n
Gibbes said, \u201cIt is good for us to play there and we are treating it as a home game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wing Kyren Taumoefolau will run out against his old team for the first time on the back of some good form, having scored two tries in their last game against the Waratahs and making seven line breaks in his last three games.<\/p>\n

Hurricanes’ first five-eighths Ruben Love said the weekend\u2019s top-of-the-table game with the Blues is the start of a season-defining month for the side.<\/p>\n
Games follow against the Chiefs (away), the Brumbies (home) and the Crusaders (home).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got to make sure we take it week by week. It is easy to get ahead of yourself and think of the challenge, but we had a good connection around it yesterday. Whoever\u2019s in front of us, we just want to put our best foot forward and make sure we\u2019re not rushing through anything.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Blues are a well-rounded team, they keep the ball in hand. They\u2019re similar to us, they defend well in their 22 and once they get into the 22, they are hard to stop. We have to think about getting out of our 22 with clean exits while making sure we\u2019re not always on the back foot. And we have got to be clean around the breakdown, not give them easy entries into the 22 through penalties.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Hurricanes’ side has few changes from the one that beat the Reds in their last outing. Pasilio Tosi returns at tighthead prop while Callum Harkin comes back at fullback with Josh Moorby moving to the wing.<\/p>\n
Coach Clark Laidlaw said, \u201cWe\u2019re well aware of the challenge the Blues are going to come with, so we\u2019re going to have to play our best rugby of the year to get the result. We\u2019re refreshed and re-energised from the bye, so we\u2019re looking forward to playing at home against a top side in the Blues. It\u2019s a good challenge at this time of the year to get into another kiwi derby.\u201d<\/p>\n
Blues coach Vern Cotter echoed Laidlaw\u2019s comments with the No.1 spot being on the line.<\/p>\n

They will still be without first five-eighths Tom Lynagh due to illness and Carter Godon will start with Matt Faessler and Tim Ryan coming in at hooker and wing respectively, as a result of concussions suffered by Josh Nasser and Treyvon Pritchard.<\/p>\n
Coach Les Kiss said, \u201cWe are playing one of the form teams. Super Rugby Pacific does not relent. It is a fantastic competition and we meet a big challenge this week.\u201d<\/p>\n
Centre Josh Flook said that after their two recent losses there had been a lot of soul searching.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been looking at what we can do better, and putting that together for an 80-minute performance. They are an electric team. This weekend has got to be a 15-man performance from us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Crusaders will be without All Black Will Jordan who has suffered a calf injury that has prevented him from running, but Johnny McNicholl has recovered from an injury and will take his place.<\/p>\n
Coach Rob Penney said McNicholl was an asset.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s very experienced, has played international rugby and has a massive amount of competitiveness. He wants to win. His speed is a great asset and he\u2019s a proud rugby player.\u201d<\/p>\n
Also missing is All Blacks hooker Codie Taylor who has a hamstring issue.<\/p>\n
Like the Hurricanes, the Crusaders have key games in the coming weeks against the Force (Perth), the Waratahs (home) and the Hurricanes (away).<\/p>\n
