Demand was strong from the outset, helped by bold colour options and a fresh design that stood out from more conservative offerings of the era.<\/p>\n<p>Production of the R170 generation ran through to 2004, with 311,222 units built across multiple variants, including AMG-tuned versions.<\/p>\n<p>Critics and customers alike responded.
