However, Shehzad Khan, son of veteran actor Ajit, who played Bhalla in the cult comedy, says his personal experience was far less dramatic. The making of Andaz Apna Apna has long been associated with stories of tension between co-stars Raveena Tandon<\/a> and Karisma Kapoor<\/a>. Reports over the years have suggested that the two actors barely spoke during the film\u2019s shoot due to an intense rivalry, often ignoring each other and even keeping tabs on each other\u2019s costumes.It is also widely said that director Rajkumar Santoshi<\/a> once resorted to extreme measures\u2014like making them sit together\u2014to ease tensions. Today, the phase is often remembered as youthful \u201cclassroom politics.\u201dHowever, Shehzad Khan, son of veteran actor Ajit, who played Bhalla in the cult comedy, says his personal experience was far less dramatic. \u201cI never really had to deal with their fights. Both of them were always very nice to me,\u201d he said in a recent interview with Vickey Lalwani.\u201cIn fact, there was a very warm, family-like atmosphere\u2014sometimes even biryani would come from Salman Khan\u2019s house.\u201dHe added, \u201cWe only sensed a bit of distance during the climax, maybe they weren\u2019t talking much. But I stayed out of all that. I was focused on my work. As a newcomer, you\u2019re anyway nervous and careful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018I kept knocking on doors\u2019<\/p>\n

Opening up about his early days, Shehzad said persistence defined his journey. \u201cAfter that, I kept knocking on doors,\u201d he shared, adding that he worked in films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Purani Haveli.\u201cI also worked with Amjad Khan, which was a great learning experience,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u2018I thought it was just another promise\u2019<\/p>\n

Recalling how he landed Andaz Apna Apna, Shehzad said, \u201cVinay Sinha had once told me, \u2018I\u2019ll take you in my next film.\u2019 I thought it was just another \u2018next film\u2019 promise!\u201dBut things changed quickly. \u201cOne day, I saw a newspaper ad\u2014Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena, Karisma\u2014but of course, my name wasn\u2019t there.\u201d\u201cAt that very moment, I got a call asking me to come to Sunny Super Sound immediately. I realised something was happening.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u2018Rajkumar Santoshi insisted on me\u2019<\/p>\n

Shehzad credited Rajkumar Santoshi for backing him. \u201cHe told me, \u2018I\u2019ve cast everyone, but for one character\u2014Bhalla\u2014I insisted on you,\u2019\u201d he recalled.There was a catch though. \u201cHe said, \u2018You have to use your father Ajit\u2019s voice and style.\u2019 I was nervous… but I agreed. And that\u2019s how the journey began.\u201dThe decision didn\u2019t go down well at home. \u201cYes, he was upset. He told me, \u2018Next time, don\u2019t you dare do this again,\u2019\u201d Shehzad revealed. <\/p>\n

\u2018People were looking for him in me\u2019<\/p>\n

Despite the warning, he continued. \u201cWhat could I do? People appreciated it. At the end of the day, we are entertainers\u2014we are here to entertain the audience,\u201d he said.Explaining his stance, he added, \u201cI told him that people liked it. Also, he had stopped working at that point. So I said, \u2018If you\u2019re not working, people are looking for you in me.\u2019\u201d\u201cHe had quit at a peak, so naturally there was a void\u2014people still wanted Ajit in some form or the other.\u201dLooking back, Shehzad believes everything eventually settled into place. \u201cOthers also started bringing that essence back in their own way.
