\n A 20-year-old man has been arrested after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the San Francisco home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman early Friday morning.\n <\/p>\n
\n The incident happened around 4:00 am when a suspect \u201cthrew an incendiary destructive device\u201d at Altman\u2019s home, \u201ccausing a fire to one exterior gate\u201d before fleeing on foot, according to statement<\/a> from the San Francisco Police Department.\n <\/p>\n \n The same suspect then allegedly headed to OpenAI\u2019s offices, where he was \u201cthreatening to burn down the building,\u201d according to the statement. SFPD said that \u201ccharges are still pending at this time.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n In a statement, a spokesperson for OpenAI confirmed the incidents and said that \u201cno one was hurt.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n Police have not indicated a possible motive behind the attack.\n <\/p>\n \n OpenAI\u2019s offices have been the target of attacks in the past. In November, the company\u2019s headquarters went on lockdown when a man \u201cthreatened to go to several OpenAI offices in San Francisco to \u2018murder people,\u2019\u201d according to the San Francisco Standard<\/a>. Protestors have also regularly demonstrated<\/a> this year outside the ChatGPT maker\u2019s building in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cWe deeply appreciate how quickly SFPD responded and the support from the city in helping keep our employees safe. The individual is in custody, and we\u2019re assisting law enforcement with their investigation,\u201d the OpenAI spokesperson said after Friday\u2019s attack.\n <\/p>\n
