The failures in Iran and Lebanon raise a vital question: Who does the IDF answer to? Is it serving the wider Israeli interest or only one political sector? The answer is that the army is supposed to be under the control of civilians, but that this basic principle is in the advanced stages of erosion ever since October 2023.
