Two years ago, No Doubt was one of the\u00a0standout acts<\/a> at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The \u201990s-era ska-punk superheroes drew a huge crowd to Coachella\u2019s main Saturday night stage<\/a>, reuniting for the first time in nearly a decade for what was considered to be one of the best sets<\/a> in recent memory.<\/p>\n

Now, on the cusp of a hotly anticipated residency in Las Vegas<\/a>, one of No Doubt\u2019s founding members is going public about a previously unknown struggle with early onset Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n

Tom Dumont, a Southern California native and longtime member of No Doubt, announced his diagnosis in an Instagram Reels video<\/a> on Saturday, April 11. Dumont says that \u201ca number of years ago\u201d he began to struggle with a series of symptoms, and was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s after receiving \u201ca whole bunch of tests\u201d from various doctors, including a neurologist.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a struggle, it\u2019s a struggle every day,\u201d Dumont said of his diagnosis. Parkinson’s disease is a nervous system disorder<\/a> that affects movement, and can grow over time to include general tremors, mobility issues and slurred speech. Other celebrities commonly associated with Parkinson’s include actor Michael J. Fox, musician Ozzy Osbourne and boxer Muhammad Ali. There is currently no cure for the disease.<\/p>\n

No Doubt is currently working on another round of shows,\u00a0this time at the Sphere<\/a> in Las Vegas. The extended residency begins in early May and runs through June.<\/p>\n

Wearing a plain white t-shirt in the direct-to-camera video, Dumont remained somewhat stoic but not unhappy, saying that the work of building out No Doubt\u2019s Sphere show \u2014 particularly the historical and visual aspects \u2014 has been \u201cvery fun.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of made me think about how grateful I am for the life I\u2019ve gotten to lead as a musician all these years,\u201d Dumont said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s thanks to our families and our friends and listeners, and you, and everyone who\u2019s come to our shows over the years. Thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dumont promised to follow up his video reveal with more commentary on \u201cwhat Parkinson\u2019s entails\u201d and his ongoing treatment at a later date. For now, he said he is moving ahead with his role in the band, which includes playing all of the shows at the Sphere.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe good news is, I can still play music,\u201d Dumont said. \u201cI can still play guitar. I\u2019ve been doing really well.\u201d<\/p>\n
