Six weeks into the attacks on energy facilities in the Middle East, and on top of the obvious increases in the cost of food and gasoline, consumers now expect inflation to increase from 3.3% to 4.8% over the next 12 months.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/realeconomy.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/4_13_2026_MM_2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29051 size-mailchimp-images\" src=\"https:\/\/realeconomy.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/4_13_2026_MM_2-560x340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"340\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the longer term, actual inflation has been above the Federal Reserve\u2019s 2% target for six years, which might account for the heightened expectations over that period.<\/p>\n<p>That elevated level might also imply a loss of confidence in the Fed\u2019s ability to quash inflation without a recession.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"When the American public tells one something it might be a good idea to listen.
