Dexter: Resurrection is finally getting resurrected.

Dexter, as a franchise, has been adored by many, and with three spinoffs and a planned Trinity Killer spinoff, it seems that it’s far from over. Dexter: Resurrection broke Showtime streaming records upon its release, and the original series has also seen a massive increase in viewership on Paramount+.

Series writer Scott Reynolds confirmed on X that season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection has begun filming, while also announcing original series star James Remar is returning as Harry Morgan. Remar appeared in the flagship series and has since returned for spinoffs, acting as Dexter’s (played by Michael C. Hall) conscience. This news comes after director Marcos Seiga showed the last days of prep for production on Instagram.

Showrunner Clyde Phillips ordered 10 episodes for season 2, with production set to take place at Manhattan’s Sunset Pier 94 Studios. The official release date has yet to be confirmed, but it has been reported that an October release is the goal for the second season.

Remar isn’t the only casting announcement made recently, as it was confirmed that Uma Thurman’s character, Charley Brown, would return after fleeing New York following a confrontation between Dexter, his son Harrison (played by Jack Alcott), and her. However, her return could mean she’s seeking revenge for Dexter’s deeds in the first season.

Another interesting casting choice was the mysterious New York Ripper finally getting a face after being talked about throughout season 1. Brian Cox, known for Succession and Braveheart, has been cast as the notorious ripper, and Dexter is now on a path to rid New York of its killers, as seen at the end of season 1.

Dexter: Resurrection’s season 2 has yet to have an official synopsis, but fans are already eager to see what’s in store following the extremely successful and much-loved first season, which has been credited for reviving the franchise. With a near-perfect 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics are also enjoying this spinoff far more than the original series, which has a 71% rating, and Dexter: New Blood, which has a 77% rating.

Everyone’s favorite serial killer is coming back, and has left Miami far behind him, but the horrors of New York City could force Dexter to call on the dark passenger once again. Dexter: Resurrection season 1 is available to watch on Paramount+.
