<\/p>\n\n\tA global mindset is critical to achieving success in today\u2019s fashion industry, and Friday night at The Glasshouse on Manhattan\u2019s West End, LIM students traversed cultural and, in some cases, celestial borders, producing their 81st annual runway show with the theme \u201cGlobal Fashion Fusion.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tOwnership of the New York-based college transitioned from the Marcuse family to the Japan Educational Foundation in December, so for the first time designs by home-field talent walked the runway alongside those from recent graduates at sister school ESMOD France. And spotlighting a third school in JEF\u2019s portfolio, television screens greeted parents and faculty at the event\u2019s entrance playing animated shorts by Mode Gakuen students in Japan.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis year, we\u2019re really highlighting the alignment of LIM and JEF post acquisition,\u201d said college president Ron Marshall ahead of his opening remarks, \u201cbecause fashion doesn\u2019t just start in Milan or Paris anymore. It starts in Seoul. It starts in Tokyo. And it starts here in New York.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tWhile that might be true, this evening, the fashion started off in space. At about the same time Artemis II was re-entering Earth\u2019s orbit, \u201cStarry Romanticism\u201d kicked off seven segments with looks styled by students from the archives of LIM mentor Nicole Miller. Meanwhile, Amazon, the event\u2019s presenting sponsor, contributed to the second segment \u201cBallroom Division\u201d before \u201cApocalyptic Erosion,\u201d featuring work from the LIM student designers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tBackstage, junior Dylan Lippis said he and two friends took a \u201cstreetwear approach\u201d for their distressed bomber jacket and shorts, adding \u201cwe just wanted our character to look like he was attacked by zombies.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tDesign Club director Miranda Martinez, however, was inspired directly by her source materials: errant scraps of chiffon, net and canvas that she said she had no use for until receiving this assignment. \u201cI wanted my model to give the idea that she had to scavenge for what she\u2019s wearing because, being in the apocalypse, you have to look for anything you can find.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEmerging from the doom and gloom, the next two segments, \u201cThe New Order\u201d and \u201cAfter the Ashes\u201d came courtesy of ESMOD France. And one needn\u2019t refer to the run-of-show to see that\u2013 the former channeled Marie Antoinette with macaron shades, pearl beading and jacquard throughout, while the latter conjured a more severe image of haute Parisian glamour reminiscent of \u201980s Ala\u00efa or Mugler.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tAccording to LIM senior vice president and chief growth officer Danielle Yannotta, \u201chaving ESMOD France here taking part really elevates everything to an entirely new level.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFounded in 1841, ESMOD is the world\u2019s oldest fashion design school, so \u201cwe\u2019re taking all of their expertise in design and pairing it up with our LIM students who are more focused on the business of fashion,\u201d said Yannotta. \u201cThey\u2019ve executed all of the business elements of the show, from visual to production to music, marketing, you name it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTo conclude, patchwork denim pieces by Veronica Fletcher for Sonny Michael walked \u201cHeritage and High Fashion,\u201d culminating in \u201cThe Art of Elegance\u201d with evening dresses also available on Amazon.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tIn this segment, cancer survivor Jenna Tomasiewicz donned a pink floor-length ensemble clutching a flower-shaped handbag. Tomasiewicz is a member of the Verma Foundation, LIM\u2019s philanthropic partner for the third consecutive year. Founded by Natasha Verma, the nonprofit provides free caps and wigs to those dealing with hair loss as a result of chemotherapy treatment.<\/p>\n

\n\tVerma, busy anchoring the evening news on Fox5NY, breezed in just in time to catch the finale.
