Asus, once the top name in gaming phones, recently decided to leave the space<\/a> and put its Android device plans on hold. Now, competitor Lenovo has made a social media post indicating it\u2019s coming back to pick up the pieces. <\/p>\n

New gaming phone<\/p>\n

Posting on the Lenovo Legion Phone account<\/a> on Chinese social media network Weibo, eager Android gaming fans are promised a new phone will arrive soon, under the name of the Legion Phone Y70 New Generation. <\/p>\n

But this is 2026, right? Surely a normal Android gaming phone won\u2019t be enough to excite anyone? Lenovo has an entirely unsurprising secret weapon to win jaded buyers over, because it says the new phone will be \u201ctailor-made for the AI gaming era.\u201d <\/p>\n

What does this mean? Lenovo says the use of AI will make the new gaming phone more reliable and more exciting to use, and assist in everything from gaming controls to performance management. <\/p>\n

Y70 update<\/p>\n

The Lenovo Legion Y70, referenced in the recent post, was released in 2022. It featured a 6.67-inch 144Hz screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, and a 5,100mAh battery. <\/p>\n

Unlike Asus\u2019s top ROG Phone devices, the Y70 didn\u2019t feature gaming features like shoulder buttons, a side-mounted charging port, RGB lights, or special cooling accessories. <\/p>\n

Lenovo has not confirmed any of the specifications for the Y70 New Generation, but did say in a reply to a comment on the post that it will, \u201cdefinitely live up to expectations.\u201d <\/p>\n

Legion line<\/p>\n

Lenovo\u2019s Legion gaming line has mostly focused on laptops and the Legion Go gaming handheld since the company said it would stop making gaming phones<\/a> in 2023.<\/p>\n

For Android phones, Lenovo has generally relied on Motorola since it acquired Motorola Mobility in 2014, and for the last few years put its own name on tablets rather than Android phones. <\/p>\n

This, along with gaming phone stalwart Asus\u2019s departure from the space, makes the impending arrival of a Lenovo Legion-branded Android gaming phone a surprise.<\/p>\n

Lenovo does sell its Legion hardware and its Android tablets internationally, but has previously kept many of its Legion-branded phones back for release in China only. <\/p>\n
