It was the not-so-distant days of Barack Obama, when the US president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/12\/18\/opinion\/democrats-liberals-oil-gas-industry.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"media-ui-Link_link-tVkXhPLPofs-\" data-component=\"link\">defended fracking<\/a> as a force for good, saying there wasn\u2019t a trade-off \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/obamawhitehouse.archives.gov\/the-press-office\/2012\/01\/24\/remarks-President-state-union-address\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"media-ui-Link_link-tVkXhPLPofs-\" data-component=\"link\">between our environment and our economy<\/a>,\u201d and when drilling, it may surprise some, was still lefty. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ArticleBodyText_articleBodyContent__17wqE typography_articleBody___5jDr\" data-component=\"paragraph\">But over the years, liberals became increasingly hostile to fossil fuels as the evidence of climate change accumulated. From 2020 onward, the hostility turned into militant opposition, culminating with US President Joe Biden\u2019s election slogan of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/program\/campaign-2020\/joe-biden-campaign-event-in-hudson-new-hampshire\/541034\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"media-ui-Link_link-tVkXhPLPofs-\" data-component=\"link\">no more drilling<\/a>, period.\u201d It was an era of virtue-signaling, fueled by the nonsensical belief that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/opinion\/articles\/2025-09-11\/peak-fossil-fuel-demand-is-a-crumbling-myth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"media-ui-Link_link-tVkXhPLPofs-\" data-component=\"link\">the days of oil were numbered<\/a>.
