Joel Embiid sees a bit of himself in new 76ers teammate VJ Edgecombe.<\/p>\n

(AP) \u2014 Joel Embiid did not provide specifics on a return to the Philadelphia 76ers\u2019 lineup but the perennially injured All-Star center says there is a \u201cplan in place\u201d to play following knee surgery in April.<\/p>\n \u201cThe goal is to play consistently,\u201d Embiid said Friday at the team media day.<\/p>\n A two-time NBA scoring champion, Embiid had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee<\/a> in April following an injury-plagued season that limited him to only 19 games. He was ruled out for the season in late February after averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve had so many injuries,\u201d Embiid said. \u201cThe only thing I\u2019ve always told myself is you can\u2019t give up.\u201d<\/p>\n Embiid has played only 58 regular-season games and seven Play-In Tournament\/playoff games since he earned NBA MVP honors<\/a> in the 2022-23 season.<\/p>\n \u201cI want to play. I want to play every single game,\u201d Embiid said. \u201cI\u2019ve been pretty unlucky when it comes to that compared to most NBA players.\u201d<\/p>\n The 76ers were set to practice in New Jersey on Saturday and Sunday before they travel to the United Arab Emirates for two preseason games in Abu Dhabi<\/a>.<\/p>\n Paul George won\u2019t be ready to play overseas \u2014 but the Oct. 22 season opener remained in play.<\/p>\n George is still recovering from surgery<\/a> in July on his left knee after he was injured during a workout. George said Friday he\u2019s participating in light workouts on the court and expected to be in a \u201cgood place hopefully earlier than later.\u201d<\/p>\n
