Venture capital firm\u00a0Accel<\/a>\u00a0has raised\u00a0$5 billion\u00a0in late-stage capital to invest in artificial intelligence (AI) companies.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s partners said\u00a0in\u00a0a Tuesday\u00a0(April 14)\u00a0blog post<\/a>\u00a0that AI has reduced the distance between having an idea and scaling it, that the market is expanding to match that change and that the defining companies of the next decade are taking shape now.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn our view, this market cycle represents the early phase of a broader transformation,\u201d the partners said in the post. \u201cWe\u2019ve\u00a0seen big shifts before, and they tend to build on each other. But the momentum behind AI is entirely new. Markets are refreshing, opportunities are broadening, and the next decade will be one of the most meaningful in modern technology.\u201d<\/p>\n

Accel is supporting founders with its platform that has supported companies such as\u00a0Atlassian<\/a>, CrowdStrike<\/a>, Flipkart<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Slack<\/a> since their inception and that is now working with companies like Lovable<\/a>, Vercel<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Cyera<\/a>, according to the post.<\/p>\n

The firm\u2019s portfolio now includes more than 800 companies around the world and across all stages, per the post.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs these companies scale, the late-stage vehicle ensures that our partnership only strengthens,\u201d the Accel partners said. \u201cWe\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0buy our way into the late stage; our portfolio brought us here. This is for the breakouts, the winners, the generational stories.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bloomberg\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0Wednesday, citing Accel Partner Matt Weigand<\/a>, that Accel will dedicate\u00a0$4 billion\u00a0to its fifth Leaders fund, which focuses on late-stage startups and with which it plans to make between 20 and 25 investments with an average check size of $200 million.<\/p>\n

The firm will dedicate another $650 million to a sidecar fund that gives limited partners more exposure to its biggest investments, according to the report.<\/p>\n

These new funds are added to Accel\u2019s existing\u00a0$31 billion\u00a0in assets under management, as of last year,\u00a0per\u00a0the report.<\/p>\n

PYMNTS reported in December that Silicon Valley\u2019s AI startups<\/a>\u00a0raised a record\u00a0$150 billion\u00a0in 2025. That funding level surpassed the previous record of\u00a0$92 billion\u00a0set in 2021.<\/p>\n
