Listen to Massive Attack and Tom Waits’ new single, Boots On The Ground \u00b7 News \u27cb RAThe track lands with a politically-charged music video courtesy of US photo artist thefinaleye.\"ListenMassive Attack<\/a> and Tom Waits have unveiled a collaborative single.<\/p>\n

Out today, April 16th, through PIAS<\/a>, Boots On The Ground is the Bristol outfit’s first release since 2020 audiovisual EP EUTOPIA<\/a>. The track is backed by vinyl B-side, “The Fly” a spoken word piece that marks Waits’ first new recording since 2011’s Bad As Me.<\/p>\n

An accompanying film, co-created by Massive Attack and US photo artist thefinaleye, presents a montage responding to recent US protests around immigration enforcement, militarisation and state power. Novelist Omar El Akkad will also publish a companion spoken word text reflecting on the project’s themes tomorrow, April 17th.<\/p>\n

Boots on the Ground is the first release under Massive Attack’s Spotify exemption policy. A limited vinyl edition will be manufactured using recycled materials, with proceeds donated to the American Civil Liberties Union and the US Immigrant Defense Project. It lands five days on from frontman Robert Del Naja’s arrest<\/a> at a Palestine Action protest in London.<\/p>\n

“Across the western hemisphere, state authoritarianism and the militarisation of police forces are fusing again with neofascist politics,” he said. “Seen within the American emergency, at home and overseas, this track contains pulses of callous impulse & abandoned mind.”<\/p>\n
