These agreement would add 430 MW of clean energy to the grid and bring its total renewable capacity to nearly 1 GW (990 MW) nationwide once fully operational.

In a press reelase, Amazon said, that the newly signed portfolio includes one wind farm, three utility-scale solar-plus-storage projects, four distributed solar-battery projects, and a new battery installation at the previously announced Mokoan Solar Farm. Together, these projects will strengthen grid reliability while expanding carbon-free energy supply across New South Wales and Victoria.

This marks Amazon’s largest renewable energy investment in Australia in a single year, supporting its goal of achieving net-zero carbon by 2040 under The Climate Pledge. According to BloombergNEF, Amazon was the largest corporate purchaser of carbon-free energy in Australia in 2025, and among the leading buyers globally.

The investment complements Amazon’s previously announced AU$20 billion plan to expand data centre infrastructure in Australia by 2029, aimed at strengthening the country’s cloud and AI capabilities. Announced alongside Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in June 2025, the initiative will support advanced AI and digital infrastructure. These projects also align with Amazon Web Services (AWS) efforts to improve sustainability, including the use of treated wastewater for data centre cooling.

Amaxon Moves Beyond Solar Brings Storage To The Mix

A key highlight of the portfolio is its strong focus on battery storage. Eight of the nine projects include battery energy storage systems, marking Amazon’s first solar-battery hybrid projects in Australia and its first such deployments outside the United States.

The projects also support regional communities by demonstrating how renewable energy can coexist with existing land uses. For instance, the Muswellbrook solar farm is being developed on rehabilitated brownfield land, including former coal mining areas, contributing to environmental restoration. Other projects incorporate agricultural co-use, with livestock grazing between solar panels.

Amazon said its renewable energy investments not only support its own operations but also add new sources of clean power to the grid, benefiting homes, hospitals, and schools.

Background

Since 2020, Amazon has invested an estimated AU$2.8 billion in renewable energy projects across Australia. Once operational, its 20 projects will deliver nearly 1 GW (990 MW) of capacity, enough to power more than half a million households annually.

The nine new projects are located across New South Wales and Victoria. In New South Wales, these include the Muswellbrook solar farm with storage (OX2), Forest Glen solar farm with storage (X-ELIO), and Stanbridge solar farm with storage (Anza).

In Victoria, the portfolio includes the Golden Plains 2 wind farm (TagEnergy), Laceby, Indigo, Barnawartha, and Mooroopna solar farms with storage (all by Anza), as well as a battery installation at the Amazon-enabled Mokoan solar project (European Energy).

Amazon Australia has announced its largest renewable energy investment in the country to date, signing nine new power…

[22
1457,1418,242,85,46,5536,141
0":"post-395627","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-environment","8":"tag-amazon","9":"tag-clean-energy","10":"tag-environment","11":"tag-il","12":"tag-israel","13":"tag-renewable-energy","14":"tag-science
["GET
