\n\tJohnny Depp<\/a> appears to be back.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe star, who has largely been working outside of the mainstream Hollywood system in recent years, took the stage during Paramount\u2019s CinemaCon<\/a> presentation on Thursday to debut his new movie <\/a>Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol.<\/p>\n

\n\tDepp walked out to Alex Warren hit \u201cOrdinary,\u201d in his signature hat, sunglasses and scarves, receiving hearty applause from the room of theater owners and distributors as he thanked them for the support and told them he loved them. <\/p>\n

\n\tHe explained he has been obsessed with A Christmas Carol \u201csince I was a little kid,\u201d and when he was first approached his immediate thought was that no one could match what Reginald Owen has done in the original movie in the \u201930s.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBut that\u2019s no reason not to attempt something,\u201d Depp continued, commending director Ti West for doing \u201csomething very special. I was sort of just around for laughs.\u201d The star then showed off some footage, as Depp appears unrecognizable \u2014 and reminiscent of Jim Carrey\u2019s character in Lemony Snicket\u2019s A Series of Unfortunate Events. He\u2019s gone gray, with a sharp nose and older features, and yet still some of that Jack Sparrow swagger. The classic story unfurls, with Scrooge throwing out plenty of \u201chumbugs\u201d and seeking to be left alone, until he\u2019s haunted by three spirits that make him change his ways.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe cast includes Andrea Riseborough<\/a> as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Ian McKellen<\/a> as Jacob Marley and Rupert Grint<\/a> as Bob Cratchit. Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin, Charlie Murphy, Arthur Conti and Ellie Bamber round out the ensemble. West helms the film from a script by Nathaniel Halpern that adapts Charles Dickens\u2019 classic 1843 novella.<\/p>\n

\n\tHitting theaters Nov. 13, this project \u2014 along with Lionsgate\u2019s upcoming Day Drinker, \u2014 mark Depp\u2019s first foray into Hollywood studio fare since 2018\u2019s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The actor was dropped from the next film in that Warner Bros. franchise after negative headlines amid his split from Amber Heard that led to contentious litigation. <\/p>\n

\n\tDepp recently shifted his attention to non-US movies and appeared in a period piece\u00a0Jeanne du Barry. At the movie\u2019s premiere at Cannes in 2023 he was asked about Hollywood\u2019s view of him to which he replied, \u201cI don\u2019t feel boycotted, because I don\u2019t think about Hollywood. I don\u2019t feel much further need for Hollywood \u2014 I don\u2019t know about you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCinemaCon is the annual event for exhibitors and Hollywood studios that runs this year from April 13-16.
