\n\tAfter his monumental first Coachella<\/a> set, Taemin is setting an even higher bar for himself heading into the second weekend of the festival.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWeekend One, I really emphasized the elegance, and there was a smoothness to everything,\u201d says the singer, in L.A. a few days before heading back to the desert stage in Indio. \u201cThere will be elegance to Weekend Two as well, but I want it to feel more impactful, feel sexy and bring more power into it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tHe\u2019s still processing the \u201cvery new experience\u201d of performing at the popular music festival alongside some of the biggest names in music. \u201c\u200aIt\u2019s been very fun, and it feels really fresh,\u201d he says. \u201cIt is very, very busy, but I\u2019m still having fun in spite of it all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOffstage, he got to meet fellow performers including PinkPantheress and Teddy Swims, and ran into G-Dragon<\/a>, another K-pop<\/a> trailblazer who was at the festival with BigBang.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was so happy to be able to say hi and catch up with him,\u201d he says. \u201cWeekend One, I had so many nerves; I wasn\u2019t able to really enjoy as many sets as I wanted and attend so many other sets. But Weekend Two, I\u2019m really looking forward to letting it all down, now that my nerves are a little bit eased up, to really enjoy the concert.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKnown as the \u201cIdol\u2019s Idol,\u201d Taemin has established his legacy through strong stage performances and choreography, both as a solo artist and with second-generation K-pop<\/a> group SHINee. This spring, he\u2019s claimed a few \u201cfirsts\u201d \u2014 he\u2019s the first Korean solo male K-pop artist to be featured on the Coachella<\/a> lineup, and the first to have a dedicated exhibition at the Grammy Museum.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring his first Coachella<\/a> performance, the singer performed an energetic set of some of his most popular solo hits \u2014 including \u201cMove\u201d and \u201cGuilty\u201d \u2014 along with six new songs he debuted onstage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u200aI was pretty nervous, because these are songs that I haven\u2019t performed before, and the audience hadn\u2019t heard any of these songs before,\u201d he says. \u201cBut it\u2019s Coachella \u2014 it\u2019s an experience, and it\u2019s a great space for people to meet me for the first time. So I thought it was a great place to perform all of these new songs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe describes his newest music as a more \u201cintimate\u201d reflection of himself. \u201c\u200aThey have a lot of expressions of what I\u2019m currently feeling, and what I wanted to express out of my current thoughts and meditation,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\n\tMissing from his Weekend One set was \u201cLong Way Home,\u201d his first all-English track, which was released last month. \u201c\u200aI wanted to create a song that was easy to approach, even for people who don\u2019t know me yet,\u201d he says of the track.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile his Coachella appearance was hotly anticipated by his fanbase \u2014 known as TAEMate \u2014 the singer is leaning into the opportunity to introduce himself to new fans as well.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u200aI want them to see the type of musician I am through the performances, the music and the way I\u2019m expressing everything,\u201d he says. \u201cI know that our cultures are different and languages are different, but I\u2019m hoping that this is a really good opportunity for them to meet me as the artist that I am.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTaemin also recently debuted \u201cTaemin: Performer. Artist. Icon\u201d at the Grammy Museum in L.A. On display in the exhibition are two signature stage looks, a red and black outfit from the encore of his \u201cEphemeral Gaze\u201d tour and all-white look from his \u201cVeil\u201d tour, along with a selection of \u201cartifacts\u201d including his official lightstick, in-ear monitors and stage microphone.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI wanted [the world] to see my identity through this,\u201d he says. \u201cI want them to hear my music and look at the direction everything is going \u2014 the costumes and the movements \u2014 and I want them to experience my world building.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFashion is an important part of that worldbuilding and Taemin describes his onstage outfits as an extension of his music. The artist, dressed in jeans and a textural red top \u2014 one of his signature colors \u2014 opted for an all-white outfit for the first weekend. But he teases that he has a new look prepared for Weekend Two.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd despite being focused on his own performance, Taemin has still found time to be a fan himself during Coachella. \u201cJustin Bieber performed on the same night that I did, and I really wanted to see his concert,\u201d he says. \u201cMy schedule was pretty packed right after my show, and I rushed through telling everybody \u2018I need to get to the Bieber set.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNext month, he\u2019ll reunite with SHINee for a three-day concert in Korea. \u201c\u200aAs always, I think it\u2019s gonna be very fun, as it always has been,\u201d he says of performing with the group, which debuted in 2008. \u201cWe\u2019ve built so many memories with our fans, and I\u2019m excited to add another memory to that memory bank.\u201d<\/p>\n
