Cond\u00e9 Nast is planning to shutter Self, its women\u2019s health magazine, after 47 years.<\/p>\n
In a memo<\/a> published on the magazine giant\u2019s website on Thursday, the media company\u2019s CEO, Roger Lynch, explained the decision by saying: \u201cAs audience behaviors shift, we have not seen a path for Self to continue in its current form as a digital publication.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cGoing forward, health and wellness content will be integrated into our other brands, including Allure and Glamour,\u201d Lynch said, referring to Cond\u00e9 Nast<\/a>\u2019s other beauty and wellness titles.<\/p>\n Self, which transitioned to an online-only format in 2017, still reaches<\/a> more than 20 million people each month. The publication has also earned significant recognition over the years, including a National Magazine award and a Webby\u2019s People\u2019s Voice award.<\/p>\n The closure is part of a wider set of operational changes across the company. Lynch also announced the end of Wired\u2019s Italy edition, noting that while the brand \u201cremains a strong global brand, the Italian edition has not kept pace with growth in our other markets\u201d.<\/p>\n Additionally, Cond\u00e9 Nast will wind down Glamour\u2019s publishing operations in Germany, Spain and Mexico.<\/p>\n \u201cTaken together, Wired in Italy, Self and the affected Glamour markets represent a little over 1% of our overall revenue. They also remain unprofitable, and continuing to operate them in their current form limits our ability to invest in the ideas and areas that will drive future growth,\u201d Lynch said.<\/p>\n Beyond editorial changes, the company is also restructuring internally to adapt to technological shifts. Lynch said Cond\u00e9 Nast will be making \u201cchanges within our technology organization, reflecting the rapid advancement of AI and its impact on our ability to innovate and build products faster\u201d, adding: \u201cTeams will be restructured to be more agile and to work more closely with our brands and customers, reducing barriers to execution.\u201d<\/p>\n The latest moves follow a series of transformations at Cond\u00e9 Nast in recent years. Glamour<\/a> ended its print edition in 2018, followed by Allure transitioning to a digital-only format<\/a> in 2022. In 2024, music publication Pitchfork was folded into<\/a> GQ, the company\u2019s men\u2019s style magazine.<\/p>\n More recently, last November, Vogue \u2013 one of Cond\u00e9 Nast\u2019s key revenue drivers \u2013 announced it would absorb Teen Vogue to create a more \u201cunified reader experience across titles\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n
