Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Oman on Thursday welcomed a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon announced by US President Donald Trump while expressing support for strengthening the Lebanese state and restricting weapons to its institutions.<\/p>\n
Jordan\u2019s Foreign Ministry praised the \u201cmajor positive role\u201d played by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in securing the ceasefire.<\/p>\n
The ministry reaffirmed Jordan\u2019s \u201cabsolute support\u201d for the Lebanese state in asserting its sovereignty across all Lebanese territory, restricting weapons to the state and restoring national institutions.<\/p>\n
Saudi Arabia also welcomed the ceasefire and praised the role played by Aoun, Salam and Berri.<\/p>\n
In a statement posted on the US social media company X\u2019s platform, the Saudi Foreign Ministry reiterated the kingdom\u2019s support for \u201cthe Lebanese state in extending sovereignty and restricting arms to the state and its legitimate institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Oman also welcomed the ceasefire and urged all parties to abide by its terms and avoid any actions that could undermine it.<\/p>\n
The Omani Foreign Ministry also expressed appreciation for efforts by the United States to secure the agreement.<\/p>\n
Earlier Thursday, Trump announced that Israel and Lebanon would begin a 10-day ceasefire at midnight local time in Beirut and Tel Aviv (2100GMT).<\/p>\n
\u201cI just had excellent conversations with the highly respected President Joseph Aoun, of Lebanon, and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel,\u201d Trump said on his Truth Social platform, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by his nickname.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese two leaders have agreed that in order to achieve peace between their countries, they will formally begin a 10-day ceasefire at 5 P.M. EST,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
