{"id":396146,"date":"2026-04-17T00:55:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T00:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/396146\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T00:55:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T00:55:09","slug":"investors-are-underestimating-global-economic-impacts-of-iran-war-top-executives-warn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/396146\/","title":{"rendered":"Investors are underestimating global economic impacts of Iran war, top executives warn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Investors may be seriously underestimating the global economic impacts of the war in Iran, executives warned Thursday. <\/p>\n<p>US stocks have recovered their initial wartime losses and surged to record highs this week on hopes for a more lasting peace in the Middle East. <\/p>\n<p>The head of the London Stock Exchange said at Semafor World Economy Thursday that markets have adopted a sense of \u201crational complacency\u201d that threatens to \u201ctip over into irrational complacency.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Citadel Securities\u2019 president said there is a \u201cgeneration of investor that really never learned the price of being wrong,\u201d while the head of private equity firm I Squared Capital said the war, which the market is \u201cunderestimating significantly,\u201d will upend supply chains and lead to inflation. <\/p>\n<p>Amos Hochstein, a top energy and national security adviser to former President Joe Biden, argued that the market is underestimating the economic impact of the war, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.semafor.com\/article\/04\/16\/2026\/strait-of-hormuz-will-stay-in-irans-control-former-biden-adviser-amos-hochstein-says\" class=\"_linkEmbed_10lxo_29\" rel=\"no-referrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">at its own peril<\/a>.\u201d He cited the gap between the spot and futures prices for oil, which suggests that investors are anticipating a quick end to the disruptions caused by the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe market doesn\u2019t really care about low income countries or middle income countries,\u201d Hochstein said. \u201cThey only care about the United States and a few other countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Citadel is a sponsor of Semafor World Economy.
