What you need to know today<\/p>\n Is peace finally coming to the Middle East?<\/p>\n There are glimmers of hope, as U.S. President Donald Trump said that the war should end soon<\/a>, while also announcing that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a\u00a010-day ceasefire<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday stateside.\u00a0<\/p>\n Combine this with the reports that the U.S. and Iran could potentially hold\u00a0a second round of talks in Pakistan, and an end to the fighting appears in sight.<\/p>\n Israel halting its attacks on Lebanon has been a\u00a0key condition<\/a>\u00a0for U.S.-Iran negotiations to restart, the speaker of Iran’s parliament has said.<\/p>\n But as we all know, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry, and peace is arguably still fragile. Brent prices are\u00a0still close to $100<\/a>, and the critical Strait of Hormuz still remains closed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Markets are firmly optimistic and investors would hope the stock rally does not be derailed by geopolitics. The\u00a0S&P 500<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0rose to\u00a0fresh all-time highs on Thursday<\/a>, with the\u00a0tech-heavy index posting its 12th consecutive positive session, notching its longest winning run since 2009.\u00a0<\/p>\n Asia markets were a bit cautious, with\u00a0stocks mixed<\/a>\u00a0in early trading.<\/p>\n On the corporate front, investors saw shares of chip giants TSMC and ASML fall even as the two companies\u00a0reported better than expected results<\/a>, highlighting how high investors’ expectations are for the sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n A similar story was also seen in Netflix, with\u00a0its shares dropping<\/a>\u00a0despite the company posting revenue that exceeded expectations.\u00a0<\/p>\n Shares fell 9% in extended trading on Thursday after the streaming giant released its\u00a0first-quarter earnings report<\/a>\u00a0and announced that\u00a0Reed Hastings<\/a>, Netflix’s co-founder and current chairman, would exit the board in June when his term expires.<\/p>\n And finally…<\/p>\n Retail traders pile into Allbirds after odd AI pivot. It is pricing narrative. It is pricing the word ‘AI’ the same way it once priced the word ‘blockchain’ and before that the suffix ‘.com,'” Mark Malek, CIO at Siebert Financial, said in a note.<\/p>\n “This is not analysis. This is pattern-matching on a buzzword by investors who have watched AI-adjacent stocks go parabolic and do not want to miss the next leg. The signal is not subtle.”<\/p>\n
