UTICA, N.Y. \u2014 The Utica Police Department charged Thomas Gibbons, of Sherill, N.Y., with attacking a health care provider.<\/p>\n
The police department said officers were called to Wynn Hospital around 1:20 p.m. on April for the incident. The department said the victim told police that they were speaking with Gibbons when he became upset with the treatment plan.<\/p>\n
Police said Gibbons then rushed toward the victim, slammed the door shut and struck the healthcare provider’s head and face.<\/p>\n
“By slamming the door, the suspect prevented the provider from having a means of escape in order to violently assault them,” the department said.<\/p>\n
The provider yelled for assistance, prompting Gibbons to stop the assault for just enough time for the provider to escape the room. Other staff members then assisted. Thhe provided was taken to the emergency department for treatment.<\/p>\n
