{"id":398377,"date":"2026-04-18T08:19:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T08:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/398377\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T08:19:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T08:19:10","slug":"if-the-iran-war-is-over-when-does-everything-go-back-to-normal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/398377\/","title":{"rendered":"If the Iran war is over, when does everything go back to normal?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3cqyt7004226qg9mymeqtf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In an extremely promising development for the war in the Middle East and the global economy, Iran agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l0006356qr8fez44u@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            For now, anyway.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l0007356qwft8mjlb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            If the war is actually ending, the logical question from anyone who has filled a gas tank over the past month is: When will prices return to where they were before the war?\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l0008356qqk2qo5jr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Not anytime soon. Almost certainly not this year. Maybe never.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l0009356q0lgavvhy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A lot would need to happen first, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/04\/17\/world\/live-news\/iran-war-trump-lebanon-israel-ceasefire#cmo39c5lk00003b65qw4z64eh\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">achieving lasting peace<\/a> with a country the United States and Israel spent weeks bombarding is just the start.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000a356qlk0pmedx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cDo not expect a return to pre-war prices,\u201d Joe Brusuelas, chief economist at RSM US, told CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000c356q5i2jhsb4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Assuming the strait has truly reopened, a logistical nightmare is about to unfold.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000d356q5v01nxqf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Step one: Clearing the strait\u2019s bottlenecks. That\u2019s going to take a long time, since tankers move about as fast as you can ride a bicycle.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000e356qoadk2qk9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            First, the 128 or so tankers stuck in the strait need to clear out, carrying around 160 million barrels of oil with them, according to Capital Economics. That will make way for empty tankers to enter the strait, load up and head back out.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000f356qpraj1q9n@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A return to full tanker transit capacity could take up to three months, according to Victoria Grabenw\u00f6ger, senior oil analyst at Kpler.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000g356qzczprhn2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Step two: Drawing down stockpiles.  Empty ships will first draw oil from the warehouses that have been filled up \u2013 because producers had nowhere else to put it.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000h356qv34jufa3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The good news: Refiners were pragmatic about their storage and never fully filled their stockpiles. That should reduce some of the time it would otherwise take to reboot pumps. But fuller-than-typical inventories will nevertheless delay getting oil production back up to full capacity.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000i356q3c7ybdr4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Step three: Restarting production. Middle Eastern oil wells were largely shut off during the war. Turning on production isn\u2019t like flipping a switch. It\u2019s a complex engineering challenge that involves serious physics and labor over up to several weeks.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000j356qwavhsjf8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Production will need to be restarted \u2013 slowly \u2013 to ensure reservoirs of crude don\u2019t collapse, requiring re-drilling and substantial repairs. Water and gas injected into wells need to be rebalanced, which is a tricky business.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000k356q8569ctfj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Because wells in the region are large and close to one another, restarting production will require significant coordination across companies and countries to ensure injected water and gas pressure remain consistent across multiple wells.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000l356qrykb5ix0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Step four: Making repairs. A number of refiners, natural gas producers and some oil producers were damaged during the war. Some repairs to the damaged critical infrastructure could take years to complete, oil companies said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9l000m356qvvm6sd0n@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There\u2019s a lot of oil go get back online: 12 million barrels per day of crude output and 3 million barrels of refined petroleum products have been shut across the Middle East \u2013 mostly in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, according to Kpler. That\u2019s no easy feat.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000o356qnplv2yql@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            All of that assumes the war is over and there are no further disruptions in the strait. And we all know what happens when you assume\u2026.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000p356qo0ob95kc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The past weeks have seen many peace fakeouts, leading traders to keep oil prices high. Skepticism remains: Despite oil tumbling more than 8% Friday, Brent crude prices remain above $90 \u2013 about $20 higher than they were before the war started.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2026-04-17t171049z-134378501-rc23rka8yxpt-rtrmadp-3-iran-crisis-hormuz-satellite.JPG\" alt=\"A satellite image shows the ship movement at the Strait of Hormuz on April 2, 2026, in space.\" class=\"image__dam-img image__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"995\" width=\"2000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000q356q5p169tnd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Traders will watch how the situation unfolds over the next several weeks and months  to see whether Iran is truly ready to give up the strait \u2013 the trump card it had used to maximize economic leverage over the United States. If so, will Iran stop charging tolls for ships to pass through? Will the administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/04\/17\/world\/live-news\/iran-war-trump-lebanon-israel-ceasefire#cmo37tl7r00003b6t7z5on2ls\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">continue to blockade<\/a> Iranian oil, or will it give in to Iran\u2019s demand that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/04\/17\/world\/live-news\/iran-war-trump-lebanon-israel-ceasefire#cmo32gltl0009356ylf3nmmw2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">blockade be lifted<\/a> as a precursor to peace?\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000r356qcl30dtiq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Also, shipping companies will need to feel comfortable actually sending their vessels through the strait. Insurance companies have sent marine coverage prices surging by thousands of percentage points, and they may be unwilling to offer affordable coverage while the situation remains precarious. Lloyd\u2019s of London declined to comment.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000s356q7nlgncum@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Iran had threatened to mine the strait, and on Friday directed ships to traverse through a designated route \u2013 and only if they receive permission to pass. Ships may be unwilling to take on that risk.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000t356q3al8xg54@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Tankers may begin to test the waters, so to speak, over the next few weeks to ensure operations can resume without incident, Grabenw\u00f6ger said. Companies will probably ask for naval escorts and coordination to ensure safety.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000u356qznqh456p@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Hapag-Lloyd, the German shipping company, called the re-opening announcement \u201cgood news\u201d and would \u201cprefer to pass the strait as soon as possible\u201d once its insurance and clearance questions are resolved.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000v356qnkjjmfmg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Shipping behemoth Maersk, on the other hand, said it has made no changes to its guidance to vessels since Trump announced the strait was reopened, but said that could change as the situation develops.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000w356q3hkqvggy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThe fine print of the agreement will matter,\u201d said Helima Croft, global head of commodity strategy at RBC Capital Market and a former CIA analyst. \u201cIf Iran continues to have the final say on passage, some insurers and shippers may be reluctant to rush back in.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>        What happens to oil and gas prices?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000y356qqpngbu2u@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Traders  will try to test a new floor for crude \u2013 maybe close to $80\u2013 but not much lower than that, said Dan Pickering, founder and chief investment officer at Pickering Energy Partners.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m000z356q1q5wwh3z@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI suspect there will be wrinkles that makes this a very choppy market,\u201d he said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/gettyimages-2271796552.jpg\" alt=\"Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange during morning trading on April 17, 2026 in New York City.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1333\" width=\"2000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo3csp9m0010356ql4w5vlp7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The futures market now projects Brent oil prices to be around $77 by year-end \u2013 not returning to pre-war prices until 2029. Historically, Brent needs to be in the $60 range for $3-a-gallon gas, noted Michael Green, chief strategist\u202fat Simplify Asset Management.
