Ryan Reynolds has discussed the future of his beloved Marvel character, and suggested that the next Deadpool movie will likely look different. <\/p>\n
The return of Deadpool has long felt inevitable, following the enormous success of 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine<\/a>, which made more than $1.3 billion at the box office. So far, however, no plans have been made concrete \u2014 and there’s no suggestion that Reynolds will be back for this year’s Avengers: Doomsday<\/a>, which looks to be a more serious and somber affair.<\/p>\n Over the past year, Reynolds has said he has been developing an idea for an ensemble film, with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> claiming that multiple X-Men characters could potentially be involved. However, Reynolds has also admitted he has only been working on the idea privately, without a formal pitch to Marvel \u2014 which is itself busy making an X-Men reboot<\/a> of its own. <\/p>\n Now, speaking to Today<\/a>, Reynolds has gone further still on the idea of a team-up movie, and suggested that he’s moved on from making solo Deadpool movies altogether. <\/p>\n “I have some stuff written,” Reynolds said, “but I don’t think I’m ever going to center him again. He’s a supporting character, he’s a guy that is great in a group.”<\/p>\n Reynolds has talked<\/a> in the past about how he’d like to see Deadpool appear as a formal part of the Avengers or the X-Men \u2014 though also felt hesitant about doing so as normalizing the wacky character into a simple team member would feel like “the end of his journey.”<\/p>\n Instead, it seems more likely that Deadpool will next appear with members of the X-Force or X-Men in their own unit \u2014 and there’s certainly no suggestion that he’ll be appearing in the X-Men reboot, which is reportedly aiming to feature an all-new cast and a “youth-orientated” vibe<\/a>. Exactly who will be included in the line-up remains unclear, however, as much remains uncertain over who will survive the events of this year’s Avengers: Doomsday, and what state the MCU will even be in following 2027’s climactic Avengers: Secret Wars. <\/p>\n Indeed, Marvel recently confirmed that Avengers: Secret Wars would act as something of a “reset” for the MCU<\/a> (don’t call it a reboot), allowing its universe to feature fresh versions of classic characters interacting with the surviving members of its core cast.<\/p>\n
