This is one of many exercises IU Public Safety engages in each year to strengthen their response.

“Testing the plans we have in place against different scenarios helps us prepare to respond when we’re needed,” Cornett said. “We encourage everyone to think ahead about safety and practice their plans, too.”

Tips to stay safe during Little 500

Stay connected with friends and family by checking in on one another and keeping your cell phone charged.

Opt in to receive safety text messages during the weekend by texting “SafeIU” to 77295. If you already receive IU Notify alerts, you do not need to opt in.

Check the local forecast before arrival to prepare for weather; you may need to pack a poncho or wear layers.

While attending events on campus, stay aware of your surroundings and plan for a safe ride home.

Slow down and watch for pedestrians, cyclists and scooters on the road. Don’t text and drive, and don’t drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

Report suspicious or criminal activity by calling or texting 911, or submit a report online.

For more safety information, visit the Protect IU website.

The Little 500 bicycle races draw thousands to Indiana University each year for a fun-filled weekend packed with…

[9
85,46,105
0":"post-402082","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-sports","8":"tag-il","9":"tag-israel","10":"tag-sports
["GET
